Outdoor concerts at Edgefield, doesn't get much better! Remember to bring cash, or dish out ATM fees and if you bring a chair it must be 27" or shorter. They do rent chairs for $5.
Pretty good stuff. Had a wonderful dinner at the Black Rabbit Restaurant. Have had many experiences at other McMenamins establishments in the past, from a beer or two to burgers etc, but this place is something completely different. Ordered warm crab and artichoke dip as a starter, which was really good! I had a smoked Rib Eye steak, which was the best I've had, ever. There was some kind of spicy butter on it- delicious. My wife who is vegetarian had their Garden Vegetable Curry, Thai syle, which I tried and it was great! The service was on top of it, recommended wine to go w the meal, and was there, but not too there. Finished the night with a soak in the heated pool. Perfect!
Great Spot on the Eastside. I think people need to take into consideration with this particular spot that it is inside the hotel at Edgefield making it unpredictable when it comes to availability since they have the lodgers as well as walk-ins (we've always made reservations in advance). The food is great - and they make most everything there rather than getting it out of a can like so many restaurants. I've had excellent service, and some that left a little to be desired, but again that can be said for most places. This is one of the few nice places that you can go to this far out on the East side, and as a plus you can take your alcoholic drink and wander all over the property - nice for a walk through their gardens with your wine after dinner. Try the Salmon Hash for breakfast, P.(ortabella) L.T. for lunch and Wild Pan Seared Salmon for Dinner - Mmmm.
Good breakfast and lunch. We arrived at noon on a saturday and were seated promptly. There were only 4 other tables being served and our waiter was very attentive and kept our water anad coffee filled. We ordered the "Scrambled eggs and Chorizo" and the "Black Rabbit Burger". The chorizo was nice and spicey without being the normal greasy but could use more eggs. The burger had wonderful taste and crispy seasoned bacon. Overall a good experience.
Lousy service... some breakfast items are good.
Every McMenamins affiliated restaurant has sub par service, but the last time I went to the Black Rabbit it was horrendous. When my girlfriend and I first arrived they said "we are booked it will take 20 minutes... however it could take less." We waited for an hour. (we almost left at 40 minutes but were told we were next) Then when we were let into the restaurant they only had 8-10 tables they were waiting on. There were 3 or 4 waitress' for those 8-10 tables and they were still slow. Our waitress was friendly but getting a refill of coffee or water was like pulling teeth.
The breakfast food is good and I'd suggest the crunchy french toast if you don't mind something a little sweet for breakfast. If you enjoy a little garlic they also have good red potatoes. If your looking for relatively good price and food then the breakfast is worth it. However don't expect good service and your food might be cold when you get it which has happened a number of times prior. However I rarely ask to have them warm it up because of how poor their service is. I might go back because the atmosphere and food I enjoy but if their service doesn't improve I'll never eat their again.
wonderful experience. The Black Rabbit restaurant is the perfect place to bring a first date or the family for the holidays. We had a wonderful time, the atmosphere was great with interesting history and something new to look at around every corner. The menu has several items that were so amazing it was hard to choose. When we did the food came out perfect, the flavors blended together wonderfuly and the presentation was beautiful. Our service was friendly, knowledgeable, and prompt. Our server was able to read exactly what we wanted out of our experience. I highly recomend checking out this property, its fantastic!
Don't waste your money. We are huge fans of this, I'll admit chain. We have been to other locations and enjoyed ourselves so I hat to have to say this. Don't wast your money on the Black Rabbit. Service was fine, nothing special. Our starter was calamari and was very good but we spent over a $100 on this tab and the rib eyes were the worst I have ever had. I don't like my meat over cooked and med rare is my standard with pink expected. This was rare and I do mean rare. The flavors all worked well together but the chef has no idea what med rare is. I wanted to love this food because I love the pub that is also at the Edgefield but I couldn't. The quality of meat isn't there either, it was very grisly and I'm a person who loves the fat in a rib eye for the flavor it brings. I could hardly eat it, so I didn't. We left half eaten steaks on our plates and didn't take it home but the waiter never asked why. Maybe that's why the chef left it raw, so I could cut it. When I spend that kind of money on food, I expect a good dinner. I could have and have done better at home. I am very sad.
Expectations not met. You would think that a place like this would have some good food. IT WASN'T!!! The fish was over cooked and salty even though they charged $15 plus dollars for the entrees. Presentation sucked. They gave me luke warm water for my tea and instead of hot water. The service lacked. We had to wait a while for courtyard seating that was empty.
