Gresham >Chang's Mongolian Grill
Different, Healthy, Tasty. We finally went to Chang's for lunch yesterday. I guess I was expecting a kind of Chinese Izzy's, but was pleasantly surprised. You go through the buffet line, pick out the uncooked items you want, and add your own mix of custom sauce. It is then cooked for you on a giant grill. The result is very fresh, low fat stir fry without all the oil and deep fried items like a lot of places. While there aren't a lot of different ingredients, there are enough to create a variety of different tasting dishes. If you like spicy food, you can add dried red peppers, jalepenos and hot oil to your heart's content. You can also choose to add noodles to your dish. I was very happy to find tofu, sesame seeds and peanuts available as protiens, because I don't like to eat meat daily. If you are vegan you could certainly eat here, get full and not feel left out. I think we paid $7.69 each for lunch, and that's all-you-can -eat. With that price is included a cup of egg flower or hot and sour soup, rice, wraps, and ice cream. We didn't care for the egg flower soup because it is really sweet, but that's just our tastes. We didn't have room for the ice cream! I believe more items, like shrimp, are offered for dinner, but the price is a little higher. The staff is pleasant and helpful. I don't think you can go wrong here.
Long trek to a great meal.
I eat at the one that's way out close to Oregon City, and that's the only problem--there aren't any locations that are close to the Sellwood area of Portland. But this place is fantastic, with the choices of meats and vegetables that are grilled right in front of you. I have not "made" a bad dish here yet. And everything is so FRESH..
The only drawbacks are the lack of booths and the waiter's desire to cram all the customers together. My wife and I like eating privately. Cooks deserve those tips!!
