Finally food arrived and fries were the dregs from the bottom of fry basket. Server, after a lengthy wait, brought bill but it was $30 more than what we spent. Still checking bank today for overcharge. Needless to say, our last visit.
stay away. worst customer service i've ever received. the manager refused to serve us food because we got drinks at the bar and went to sit in the restaurant area. they didn't even tell us anything. Stay away if you want to have a good time and leave without getting mad.
Going, going ?????.
We have eaten at the this Stanfords 40 or 50 times in the last 10 years and the only thing I can say about our recent outings is "boy how they"ve slipped" the food, menu and service.
My wife and three of her friends went there for dinner a few weeks ago and only one of them got what they ordered correctly. One meal showed up about 5 minutes after the other 3 with no explanation or apology. The beef tips were tough and chewy and wifes friend didn't eat them and since she didn't want to take them home our dog got them (he likes chewy meat) also the french fries on one order were stone cold but since the waitress never checked back to see if things were ok so there was no chance to tell her about it.
We were in the area Friday and decided to give it another chance. We were seated promptly and our drink order was deliverd quickly so we were off to a good start then we sat with the menus closed on the edge of the table for over 15 minutes without anyone asking if we were ready to order. When our waitress finally showed up, I ordered the salmon with french fries and my wife a steak and baked potato. The food was delivered by someone new, not the waitress that took our order. This girl gave me the steak and my wife the salmon without asking who got what. We got that taken care of but I noticed that I had a baked potato instead of fries. She said she would take care of that and bring me some fries right away. We started to eat, my wife said the steak was good but the baked potato was so cold it would not melt butter, I gave her the one on my plate and it was a little better. About half way thru the meal a young man came by to ask if everything was alright and I told him that I was still waiting for some french fries. He looked at our plates and gave me a funny look and said he would check on it. That was the last we saw of him, never got the fries either. The first waitress came with the check later and never asked if needed anything.

I did not have a good eating experience at Stanfords. When a gay friend comes to town I hate being faced with the choice: Do you want Gay food or Good food? Why can't I have both in Portland? I being gay also sometimes ask why doesn't Portland have at least one Gay-Owned/Operated Restaurant that offers exceptional food for a special dining experience? Hey, I'm not a connoisseur. But I do like to eat good food prepared with care and forethought. And many restaurants in Portland are truly superb. Stanfords Bar and Grill, unfortunately, serves mediocre food. I treated two friends to dinner on a Saturday night at 8PM in the dining room. We all had the Baby Back Ribs and some of us had the Monteray Hamburger. The ribs were lukewarm and mine was medium well. The french fries with that were way over-cooked and just dreadful. Obviously the meats in these two entres were left under the heating lamp too long and the vegetables and fries were left there too. I hate complaining about restaurants. But when I have a disappointing experience, I want to warn everyone. I go out of my way to support GLBT establishments. But I will not support mediocre restaurants. It's just disconcerting that this gay-owned/operated restaurants in Portland can not compete with neighborhood venues that consistently offer excellent quality and service for a reasonable price. Sad ... very sad.
Pros: Great bar and well-poured drink
Cons: Mediocre plain fare
Excellent "Faux Gourmet" Food, Great Soups, Cozzy Dinner Spot.
Below is feedback I forwarded along to R-U-I, the group who owns Stanford's now. EDE - Eat Drink and Earn (loyalty program).
Hi there,
I'm writing to you as an EDE Club member from the Portland area. This is feedback. That I hope is responded to.
We frequent the Stanford's in Tanasbourne at least 3 times a month.
Recently we noticed a table ad for the Thanksgiving dinner. "Reservations Recommended" the card read at the bottom. This was 2 weeks before Thanksgiving.
Plenty of spots were open for the timeslot we chose. So we have a choice of what sort of Dining Room table we wanted for a group of 4 visiting from out of town. We thought perfect!
Fast forward 2 weeks, now its Thanksgiving we show up at our reserved time, party of 4, and we're told "the Dining Room is full, would a table in the Lounge be alright?"
From that moment our planned, nice, Thanksgiving dinner out was ruined. We decided not to make the night worse arguing with managers etc. And decided to squeeze into the lounge for an uncomfortable dinner that followed.
The hostess offered no apologies, concessions, nothing. This feedback is by matter of prinicipal.
The seasonal vegetable, Brocollini must've been tossed on a dirty steak grill because it tasted and smelled of crispy beef fat. Again no complaints from our party, to not ruin a holiday evening.
The rest of the meal was great and our waitress gracious, the hostess & lack of preparation fell completely flat at Stanford's Tanasbourne.
Not happy,
Me.
P.S.: I'd like it if possible, the local manager to call me & explain the total disregard for reservations made & not held. As a loyal patron, I came with my planned group, our money, and our appetites, and we're treated like any other walkin group during Happy Hour.
Good Food, Good Service, Good Experience. It was generally a good experience. It was a little busy, but a waitress from the bar came out and got drink orders from us, which was a nice, personal touch. Out waitress was friendly, prompt, and generally one of the better waitresses we have had. The food was amazing! I recommend the tuna and the pork. Both dishes were excellent! Desert was great as well. The amount of food you got for the price is excellent. Overall a great experience.
Great Happy hour. This place has great food at reasonable prices. The salmon ceaser salad is good and so are all the happy hour items. If you get there in time for happy hour you should get that for sure great value.
Allways busy for happy hour!. Every night we have come, esspecially on thursday nights it is always busy. A mix of people from the office to sports people alike. Food and service and most important the drinks and beers are always good.
Happy Hour. My wife and I go to happy hour quite frequently at Stanfords. The $1.95 bar menu is awesome. Our favorite is the Salinas Spinach & Artichoke dip. The chicken tenderloins are great too. The only downside is on Friday & Saturday nights a lot of people know about happy hour & the bar can get crowded. The afternoon happy hour from 3-6 is hardly ever crowded though. This restaurant is expensive if you eat in the dining room. Stick with the smoke-free bar for happy hour!
Bad Service. We came in to Stanford's for happy hour and was very disappointed by our server. She was unpersonable, not friendly, and never smiled. Another server brought us our food and our server never once came back during our meal to check on us. She didn't come back to our table for 25-30 minutes. Our plates sat on our table for at least 10 minutes after we had ate everything. Even then, she never asked how our food was. We had to eventually ask for our check because she was so unattentive. I would have understood if she'd have been busy, but she had enough time to stand around with another server and gossip about others talking about how "pissed off" they were. It was not only unprofessional, but we felt ignored. Overall we were very disappointed by our experience.
