Editorial Review for Syun Japanese Restaurant & Sake Club – by May Wong
In Short
The charming decor here features tatami-style window dressings and sake bottles lining the walls. The space is pleasantly sprinkled with bric-a-brac. A formidable menu showcases the popular sushi and sashimi--plus more than 70 appetizers. Creative starters include grilled beef with bonito flakes and char-grilled squid with horseradish. The best dish of the house is the steamed clams in sake--fresh and pungent in flavor.

The food is great but try to avoid the young male server he will strongly steer you away from items that you want to order. Listen dude, your Job is to serve people what they want; if we want your opinion we will ask for it, trust us. Other than that the food is the best sushi I have ever had. Serious !!! The specials are original, the daikon salad is a great starter ask for it with no onions unless you love onions. I also really enjoyed the blue fin there. Beware of the 30$ corking fee, but they are a sake bar right. Ambience is almost perfect.w
Pros: sooosh
Cons: Burns a huge hole in pocket

This food reminds me of home - truly authentic Japanese! I get the okonomiyaki every time I come because it's so good and impossible to find anywhere else. The tempura is always fresh and crispy, the sashimi is fresh and delicious and their sushi is top-quality. The sake selection is wonderful and their sake specials are not to be missed if you are a sake lover or just want to try something new or different. The only drawbacks are the location and the service. The service can be a little iffy due to the language barrier and the number of customers, but the service is usually good. The location is something that can't be helped, but having to drive all the way to outer Hillsboro is one reason I don't go there more often. As for price, the last trip we took was around $80 including tip and that was for 3 people and one of their special sake offerings, so I don't consider that too extravagant, especially considering the quality and quantity. We spent close to 90 minutes enjoying our meal and never felt pressured to leave, so unless there is a huge line waiting to get in, you should feel comfortable lingering over your food and drinks.
Pros: Excellent food, Great sake selection, Authenticity
Cons: Inconvenient location and occasionally slow/difficult service
