This historic 1905 hotel, renovated in 1998 by McMenamins, is located in charming McMinnville, in the midst of Willamette Valley wine country. Relax in cozy antique-filled rooms, order breakfast, lunch and dinner daily in the pub, savor a glass of Edgefield wine in the speakeasy-style Cellar Bar and more. Perhaps the jewel on the crown is the legendary Rooftop Bar, reached by ascending the elevator or stairs to the top floor and then taking yet another flight of steps to the roof. Recently expanded with additional seating and even loftier views, guests can take in a 360-degree vista skyline, coastal range and vineyards below while enjoying McMenamins handcrafted ales, wines or spirits along with a meal from the pub. Hotel Oregon really takes off in May, when it hosts its annual UFO Festival, now the second-largest alien-related gathering in the nation.

The Scene
The small town of McMinnville can really rock, especially at this historic hotel. The basement Cellar Bar may be a civilized spot for wine tasting, but Legendary Rooftop Bar goes completely crazy at times. During the annual UFO Fest, it's the scene of the Out of this World costume ball. Where else can a demure wine broker party the night away in full-body tinfoil?

The Details
The McMenamin brothers, a couple of Oregon's original microbrewers, spend their fortune refurbishing historic properties such as this one into works of art. There are just 42 rooms in this 1905 building, some with private baths, some shared with another room and some with access to the common bath. The decor is eclectic and comfortable, with the accent on creativity. It's a popular place for weddings, business meetings and family reunions.
