New owners and the menu is different.. New owners and the menu is different. No more table side presentations. Steaks are still great but the salad was not good. Lettuce was wilted and barely any bleu cheese but the hot chocolate cake was the same as before and delicious! I will miss the old Morton's.
Great food!. My daughter and I ate here before the ballet at the Keller Auditorium. It was close and we love steak, so thought it a good choice. We loved the presentation of the food, however it was a little daunting not knowing the prices. We ordered steak, each of us, a potato to share, tomatoes with blue cheese dressing, a glass of wine, and a water, and our bill was $260.00. However the tomatoes were huge beefsteak tomatoes with homemade bluecheese that was to die for! The steaks were good, but not worth the price. We saw a collassal shrimp cocktail in the bar, and thought we should have gotten that to share along with the tomatoes and fresh bread and we could have gotten off cheaper and still enjoyed a great meal. The ambience was superb as well as the staff and the attention of the staff. It was a beautiful place to eat. We will definitely go back, but order a bit differently, so it doesn't break the bank! I do believe though that everyone should eat at Morton's at least once in their life! I also have to say I have eaten at a steak house in Seattle, with the same service, ambience, and nowhere near the same price.
Great Food and Atmosphere!. My husband and I went to spend some time together. We were readily greeted and taken to our seat. They were even so kind to offer me a black napkin as not to get lint on my all black outfit. Our server was very knowledgeable and gave us a visual demonstration of the food they had to offer. We were then given a hot loaf of bread that started off the the evening in the right direction. I had the small filet mignon with bernaise sauce. They cooked it to perfection. It was delicious. My husband had the Chicago style Rib Eye. He too thought they had cooked it perfectly. We paired up our steaks with sautéed button mushrooms and we also had a side of hash brown potatoes. The atmosphere was beautifully set with lots of wood trim low lighting and the table and chairs were nicely set up too. Our server was very attentive and took care of our every need. I would definitely go again.
good food, but way over priced. I went to Morton's steak house because our hotel was close by and my daughter wanted to go into the Koin tower. When we arrived, we were greeted by friendly host and were seated soon after. The place was crowded so I figured that it was a good sign. We were seated close to the cooks which was fine with us because they were fun to chat with. The waitress first informed us of our drink options and I asked to see the menu. I was surpised that she gave me the drink menu which I found funny. She then came up to the table to give us a presentation of the different food options wich included holding up a potato and tomato and showing different cuts of meat which did look pretty good. My daughter is picky and they allowed her to order a burger which is normally served in the bar. After our presentation we finally saw the menu andI was shocked at the price...43.00 to 49.00 just for the steak. I have never been to a high end steak house and my husband wanted to leave at that time but we decided to stay just to see what the steak would taste like. We ended up getting one Porter house steak to split between the two of us and the salad to split. My daughter got her burger and fries. We also order two diet cokes. The salad was wonderful and easily fed two people. The steak was a good size and it tasted good . My husband enjoyed it, but I knew he really wanted a full steak to himself, but for 49.00 a steak, we just couldn't swing it. My daughter's burger was 15.00 and she liked it, but not the fries so my husband ate the fries as his side dish. I also want to add that the service was really good and they were very friendly. Here is my opinion of the evening. The steak tasted wonderful....not 50.00 wonderful, but still wonderful and for 50.00 it should come with soup, salad and potato at no aditional price. I think the ala cart thing is a ripoff. The desserts were way too expensive and I didn't think of ordering a cocktail. The total meal was 83.00 not including the tip for burger, fries, one steak, and one salad. Over all, I would say it was a good experience, but I don't have plans to go back again.
Consistently Great!. My husband and I have been going here for years, both for business and for pleasure. We have experienced their catered, private dining and "regular" table service. The staff is always gracious and attentive. The food is consistently of high quality and prepared as requested. Yes, this is a national chain, but we are always made to feel welcome and special every time we go. The entrees are served ala carte, just share your sides and ask the salads to be served on split plates. They are happy to do this and the portions are generous. It is a "special night out" and has been worth it every time I've gone.
THE EMPEROR'S NEW CLOTHES!. I went to Morton's on a whim last week after a show at Keller Auditorium. Bad idea. I have never been to a restaurant that so reminded me of the tale "The Emperor's New Clothes". Let me preface this by saying that I have no problem paying premium prices for premium food. However, this is the most OVERPRICED FOOD I've ever encountered. DON'T FALL FOR IT! It's a joke! All of the meat choices are at least $40 and come a la carte. All of the samples of meat and fish are "presented", as they call it at Morton's, on a tray raw for your inspection. It is just plain tacky. All I wanted was a menu for me and a children's menu for my daughter. No luck on the children's menu. There is NOTHING special about the food. Nothing. It is average but they try and make you think it's special by saying it's "mid-western grain-fed" and charging outlandish prices. The potatoes are "hand-picked" our server informed us. I guess that's why they charge $8 for a baked potato. The woman who greeted us was wonderful as were the bus staff. Our server was very average and not very attentive, only helping us if he thought I was about to ask him for something. Do yourself a favor and go to HIGGINS or CARAFE which are right in the neighborhood, really unique, have great service and support the local farmers.
USDA prime beef, elegant tableside service and mammoth martinis..
In Short
With its dark wood details, celebrity photos and tuxedo-clad waiters, this upscale steakhouse chain has the air of a posh men's club. Service is professional and discreet, with bartenders making a mean martini. Dinners begin with a waiter-driven cart laden with fresh vegetables, live lobster and cuts of steak; customers choose from porterhouse, rib-eye, bone-in prime rib and more. Side dishes are traditional and enormous, from baked potatoes and creamed spinach to steamed broccoli with hollandaise.
Not worth it.....
The food was OK. Our server was decent enough. I would not say that either was worth what we paid. Our bill for four was $404 and change. There was nothing over the top bad, just a lot of small 'stuff' that detracted from the whole. It should be a home run every time.
For $100 per person guest check average, details should be attended to. The maitre d' was in need of a shoe shine. Maybe not too important but certainly indicative of the attention to detail in this location. Two bread plates missing from the table. The maitre d' should have noticed. He did not and neither did the server. I had to reach accross to an empty table to get a bread plate. No butter knife. We had to use our large steak knife to butter the bread. The bread was not very good. The crust was, in my opinion, over cooked. The caesar salad was drenched in dressing and was nothing but the dark green outer leaves of the head. The lump crab cakes were salty. The mashed potatoes had the consistency of puree. The steak was good. No complaints there. Desserts at these prices should be made in the restaurant. Maybe they are but they looked and tasted like a frozen product.
Our server presented the check, we signed the receipts and he picked up the signed tab while we were still sitting at the table a few minutes later. Tacky at any level of dining.
The experience was not memorable for the right reasons.
I really wanted it to be good but I was disappointed. I should have looked at city search first. I wonder if Morton's knows what guests are writing? Out of 31 reviews, seven give this location one out of five stars and a total of 14 give three or fewer out of five. Many complaints about the lack of butter knives. GET SOME BREAD KNIVES!
Good Luck to anyone who tries this restaurant.
Mediocre food for expensive price. During my most recent visit, I found myself unimpressed. I agree with an earlier poster who complained that they lack appropriate silverware -- I do not understand why we are expected to use our steak knives to butter bread. Beyond that, however, the food was lackluster. I had their 5 onion soup (which is just a fancy way to say french onion). The bread in the soup was tough and hard to eat, and I didn't enjoy it at all. The french onion at Red Robin is far superior in quality and price. I also had their crabcakes, which were just terrible. I've never eaten such bland crab cakes before in my entire life. Furthermore, when the waitstaff boxed up my leftovers, they failed to include the mayosauce, so I didn't even have that to dip the bland crabcakes in later. Needless to say, I threw out $40 worth of food last night because I just couldn't make myself eat them (no matter how expensive they were). The cheesecake was moist and delicious, and my tablemates tell me the steak was great. Their Lyonisse potatoes were too salty, and something you could have ordered at Elmers. Overall, not worth the price. I will not be returning.
Very romantic place, great for a special occasion.
I'm a loyal Ruth's Chris fan, that's usually my spot when I want to drop a couple hundred and be spoiled. What drove me to Morton's were some rave reviews from friends.
My wife and I had a great evening. Overall the best experience at a steakhouse I've had period. The food was excellent, not the best steak I've had, but very, very good. Probably a 9 on a scale from 1-10. However, the best cheesecake I've had. It was to die for.
The service was absolutely top notch and as my wife put it, we need to go back for the ambience.
