Editorial Review for Hot Lips Pizza – by Ivan Browning
In Short
Collegiates, harried business people and New York-style pizza aficionados move quickly through the slice line in this big, bright, art-filled space. Slices are quick, cheap and easy. Gargantuan pies sit behind the counter and make for point-and-order simplicity, and high traffic ensures freshness. Popular pizzas include the Omnivore Bliss--pepperoni, bacon, Italian sausage and mushrooms--and Veggie Nirvana--Roma tomatoes, roasted peppers and sweet organic onions, artichokes and garlic.

I've eaten here quite a bit in the past, typically for a pizza slice and a breadstick. The breadsticks are great and the pizza is usually excellent, although sometimes it is a little burnt. When the Pizza is fresh and hot out of the oven, it is very good. I think Hot Lips needs to improve a little bit on its pizza-by-the-slice consistency, and make sure Pizzas don't come out burnt or stay out on the display too long. Other than that, I have nothing but good things to say about the place. It has a very relaxed atmosphere, there is always reading materials around to read, plenty of napkins, beverage selection is very good, and lots of organic ingredients used in the food that they make.
Pros: Extremely good pizza and breadsticks, good atmosphere
Cons: Inconsistency sometimes in pizza by the slice

I really wanted to like this place because I live close, it's choice of toppings, and good reviews. I've tried it about four times and it just isn't very good. Three of the times I got slices and the last time I ordered a pizza. The pizza isn't horrible but it is dry, kinda burnt, and the cheese tastes fake. I think any chain pizza would have tasted the same or better for half the price! The daily special slices are interesting for a quick lunch and they do have unusual toppings and this is why I gave the restaurant three stars. But really, it isn't good enough, in my opinion, to order a whole pizza.
