Portland >Chart House
View- sure, its fantastic
Atmosphere- nice, comfortable, classy, tad noisy.
Food- good. $25 3 course meals ordered. Chicken- nice. Beef ribs- good. Coconut shrimp- probably got the best reviews. Mudpie- all but melted. Oh clam chowder... yes, very good. So all in all...
The bar is the way to go- with happy hour.
Go to the dining room once to say you have been there done that- then head for happy hour any other time. Same great view, nicer surroundings, good menu and prices.
We just had our dental school reunion at the Chart House in Portland. It was a wonderful experience from start to finish. Ann (the catering manager) was great-she basically planned the event for me and selected the best menu option for our group of 52. The tab ended up being exactly what she promised and the service was exceptional. From the valet to the servers that stuck around after closing, everyone was extremely professional every step of the way. I have planned many functions over the years and have dealt with all kinds of issues with restaurants. The food was delicious, the view was beautiful, and the service was perfect. Ann, and every single person I had the pleasure of dealing with at the Chart House exceeded my expectations. Everything you would hope to expect from a five star restaurant. Thank you!
Best View in Town!. Good service, good food, GREAT VIEW! A tad on the spendy side but this is where the birthday girl wanted to go. Food and drinks were good but nothing outstanding. If we go again, we'll probably just sit in the bar to enjoy the view.
Amazing Service. I have to say it was hard to go there after reading all this negative reviews. BUT I am very glad my wife and I still went there. We had a great experiance. The food was very good but I have to say our server was amazing. My wife and i go out to eat twice a month and the service at the chart house was great. We also got to chat with the bar manager for a few minutes. At which time he explained to us about some of the different events they have there like the spanish wine tasting with Tapas. So we will definitely be back. And thank you for the amazing service TRISHA,,,,
Bad experience.. I was hoping for a nice Christmas Eve. We came to Chart House on Christmas Eve with a party of 6; we had reservations for 8:00 PM. We arrived at 7:45.. We were told the wait would be about 15-20 minutes since they were behind... Granted it was Christmas eve and packed. We finally got seated at 9:30!!!!!!!! While waiting, around 9:00 I decided to go get a drink for me and my girlfriend... I come to the bar, only one bartender working the ENTIRE resteraunt on christmas eve... I wait ten minutes for him just to take my order.. Another 15 two give me a heineken and one Pomegranate margarita.. and another 10 to process my card... Once at the table, we order food and wine... About 30 minutes later the waitress come back tells my girlfriend her dish sold out for the night.. She reorders... Our food arrives at 10:40 PM!!! We waited over a hour and a half for our food... We get our food start eating.. My girlfriends shrimp scampi was cold... She finishes the dish (scarfed it down).. SHe did not want to say anything because she did not want the dish to be taken back and wait EVEN MORE... We have not ate since breakfast.. We were HUNGRY. Then the waiter came up, she asked if that specific dish is supposed to come cold... Her dish was comped... My overall experience at Chart House was bad.. Not worth it... I don't plan on going back there.
Great Service, Great View..
Let's start out with the good stuff : )
We arrived to be pleasantly greeted by the valet, and then the hostess. I had made our reservations via Open Table noting that we would be celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary. Not only was our window table ready when we arrived, but they had printed special menus for us with our names and anniversary date as a heading. ( A common practice I know, but still pretty cool; ) Our waitress was amazing, she even brought me a dark colored napkin to replace the white one that would have left "fuzzies" on my dark slacks. We both had cocktails to start and those were very nice.
We then ordered our food and things went down hill.
The crab stuffed mushrooms were tasty, albeit COLD. The Hummus trio was okay, but nothing special.
My husband ordered the Prime Rib and I ordered the Alaskan King Crab legs for dinner. He
ordered the prime medium, it arrived medium rare, quite fatty, and unfortunately, cold. The Alaskan King Crab legs arrived with barely a sliver of a slice down the sides to help us out with getting the VERY tasty meat out of them. Honestly, it took me so long to get all of the crab meat out of each leg that by the time that I actually ate the crab it was cold, very cold. (AGAIN!) In the end the bill was over 200.00 and IF the food had matched the service and ambiance, it would have been worth it. Will I go back there? For Happy Hour, perhaps. For dinner, only if someone else is buying! ; )
Very dissapointed night at the Chart House.
Arrive at the Chart House around 7:15pm. Was greeted by a very nice valet personnel. Got into the restaurant, headed downstairs for the reserved table. Was expected to be greet by a server or somebody, but no one was there. Found our friends were sitting at the table, we then move on to the table and took our seat. about 15min later the server came and took our orders. While waiting for our orders, we decided to add some more orders, but for about 15 min, we did not see our server anywhere. She finally showed up so we placed our additional orders. We waited almost an hour for the foods that we ordered and they are still not out yet. In addition, we could not find our server. Oh..let me clarify...we waited for our DESSERT (not dinner) for an hour. We did not order any dinner because we were told that the dessert was very good at the Chart house, so we decided to have our dinner at home and go to the Chart house for dessert. If dessert took about an hour to be served, i do not even want to find out how long would it take if we would have ordered dinner (actual food).????
Oh did i also mention that we have kids with us? Luckly, we have already had our dinner before we went to the Chart house.
I was very dissapointed tonight with the service provided by the Chart House.
I've eaten here many times over the years with some great experiences. My mom arrived from out of town on a wonderful sunny day and mentioned the Chart House for lunch because of the view.
Everything except the clam chowder was disappointing. We ordered an Ahi Tuna appetizer that arrived after our meals and was probably the worst I've ever had. Their Caesar Salad was terrible and under dressed. Service was also substandard. It took us over an hour to get in and out despite essentially ordering soup and salad.
The table of 6 seated next to us was there when we arrived and had still not been served when we left. When one of the patron's complained, the waitress actually told the customer that if he was in a hurry, he should have arrived for lunch at 11:30am!
It seems the Chart House has new owners (The Laundry Company). I wrote them about my experience and have not heard a thing back. In the age of social media, their lack of service, quality and customer relations has me wondering whether they'll even be in business a year from now.
HORRIBLE FOOD AND BAD SERVICE. This place used to be good about 10 years ago but it has really gone down hill. The only thing this has going for it is the view. We went this last Saturday night at 7:30. we ordered 2 apetizers and they were OK. Then we ordered our food. I ordered the Macadamia nut crusted Mahi Mahi, my partner ordered the sea scallops and another friend ordered the salmon and another friend ordered the prime rib. Well 10 minutes later our waitress came back to tell us the Mahi Mahi and the Sea scallops were not available. HELLO it is Saturday night at prime seating and you are already out of things. Well I think they were never available and we should have been told. So my partner ordered the prime rib and I ordered the shrimp trio. So our order came and my dinner was not what I ordered it was shrimp stuffed with crab and looked like it came out of a box and was HORRIBLE and I sent it back. The "coconut rice" also looked like it came out of a box and tasted like it as well. I can not even describe the so called PRIME RIB. It was not prime it was not even choice it was old, nasty and I know prime rib and it was not that for sure!!! My partner had ordered it about 2 month earlier and it was bad then as well and we even asked if it got better and told of our experience to the waitress and she blamed it on the corporate office???? We think she was on drugs. NOTHING was anywhere near the quality that should have been for almost 30.00 an entree, the martini's were nothing special except for they were 12.00 each!!! The only reason we went back after our bad experience 2 months ago is a friend gave us a gift card. I have already told them not to send us anymore as we will not be going back and if you know what is good for you DO NOT GO HERE!! Portland has to many GREAT restaurants for you to settle for this. And if you do think the food is good here you do not know much about good food.
The reason chains have a bad rep. I cant believe that anyone has given this restaurant 5 stars. The atmosphere is nice enough, and there is a nice view, but other than that, I would rather eat at Macdonald's, or even Arby's. At least there, you get your money's worth. we had Oysters Rockefeller and lobster spring rolls. The oysters were dirty, unwashed with muscles still attached, and had a nasty bitter taste, and the lobster spring rolls were more like frozen craw fish egg rolls w/ sour cabbage and a mustard sauce. Mustard sauce w/ lobster??? Our entrees were equally a let down and cost $33 apiece. For that kind of price, you could eat at any restaurant in Portland. On top of the horrible(even for a chain) food, our service was inattentive, and awkward. She never asked us how our food was, she brought our entree when we were still eating our apps, took my knife and never brought another one, gave us the check right after giving us the deserts, and even charged us another $3 for a hot tea refill! I know restaurants, Ive worked at many, from low end to high, and this place would be great, if it were charging $12 for entrees, but for $33, man oh man! Its a nice location on Terwilliger, right near where a recent land slide took out a house. After eating there, I think the land slide was close, but missed its mark.
