First rate Middle eastern food. Nice atmosphere and service. Dinner for two, my wife and I 2/5/2011. We ordered: 1 bottle of chenin blanc wine. They were out of stock and offered a substitute of the same variety. The owner uncorked the bottle and gave me a sample. Met my expectation, and I took it $18.00

Appetizer: Medammes. Never had this before so I ordered it. Fava beans, lemon juice, olive oil and garlic. Very tasty with the supplied pita bread. $5.00

Entree's are served with a green salad and rice. The green salad is fresh and mainly of of a leafy lettuce, not iceberg lettuce. Choice of dressing, I got the Italian, my wife the tahini (sp ?).

The rice seemed to be a combination of several types, including wild rice. Also, it had something that my wife and I guessed were currants. Quite good.

My wife ordered the chicken kabobs. The chicken was very flavorful and had been marinated in a lemon herb sauce. $17.50

I ordered the daoud basha, small meatballs in a tomato and onion sauce. Again, very tasty. $17.25

Our total cost was just under $60.00. We left completely stuffed. All the meals are $17.00-$19.00 each and are plenty of food. Leave out the wine and the appetizer and you are under $40.00 for two, for an excellent meal for two.

When we were there, Saturday about 6:30 PM, the place was not crowded. Maybe not the best place for a first date, but a bit later a great place to take your special girl.

A favorite. I love this place. Delicious entrees, cozy atmosphere, and friendly service. I agree with the other reviewers that it is a great alternative to the many dive-y sports bars on the PSU campus. I highly recommend this establishment!

spill the best kept secret on PSU campus. I've been a regular patron of Mummy's since I was first introduced to the place a few years ago as a welcome alternative to the loud, garish sports bars that characterize Portland State campus. Here you won't find a schizophrenic display of flat-screen TV's or dollar-pabst/karaoke nights; you'll find a quiet, intimate atmosphere where you can enjoy good (and certainly authentic) Egyptian food with a wide selection of drinks.

The cliché (and slightly chauvinist) tomb/mummy analogies made by detractors below should be indication enough that Mummy's is where the intelligent college student prefers to eat and drink; let the pedestrian reviewers crawl back to the cheerful tortoise.

Excellent Egyptian Restaurant--the only one in Oregon. There are several first-rate reviews of Mummy's, which should speak for themelves, and put to shame the (badly written) rest. I notice, however, that one of the negative ones mentions that Mummy's seems rather like a foreign country--as though this were a critique of an Egyptian restaurant, and moreover the unique one in Oregon! Having lived for several years in France (and thus being familiar with genuinely good--as opposed to merely snobbish--food), I can only wish the French and Italian restaurants in Portland made one feel one was eating in a foreign country!----At Mummy's the food is authentic, unpretentious, and very good; the owner notably genial (the decor, furniture and delightful Egyptian artwork was produced entirely by him, a feat in itself). The restaurant has been going for 29 years--a record that, as above, gives the lie to the various arrogant negative reviews on this site. Currently hit, like so many places, by the recession, Mummy's deserves

your patronage! If you have any discernment, you will not be disappointed.

Food is great and Sat. they have Belly Dancing. I love to eat here, my favorite food is the Veal or the Lamb. The cook is the best for Middle Eastern food, not like the Morraccan place or Greek place, which I've tried and didn't like. On Sat. they have Belly Dancers, which practice there. The drinks are really good and cheap.

Don't get scared off, by all the past negativity by people who said the food was cold or very expensive. They would complain if they had to pay a penny for food, they are probably the people who only drink water and don't like to tip or they are the ones who can't read what the coupon states and gets pissed off because they had to pay for everything, due to they ordered a salad and an appitizer. Yes, they aren't that busy, but that is because no one really knows that they are there. They are really cheaply priced for what you get. Check out Lamb and Veal prices, you will see.
