Portland >Hillsdale Brewery & Public Hse
Consistently McMenamins.. When I get off work at 9pm, my local restaurant choices are limited. This is where I go when I need a decent bite to eat and a cocktail. Its nothing special. Its just another McMenamins. They're never packed nor empty when I go. The service is always mediocre. It bums me out that this particular location has such a tiny open kitchen and your bartender usually doubles as the cook. But for an edible but forgettable burger or wrap, there are definitely worse. They usually have really tasty and creative cocktail specials and my honey is a fan of the decent selection of microbrews. There is nothing really outstanding about this place, but its relatively clean, the food is consistent and I love tater tots.
give me a break.
The last person to write a comment seems to be a bit delusional. As an employee at Hillsdale I can say that while, yes, at times service can be slow, everything else mentioned was extremely exagerated. I can attest that it has never taken 1 1/2 hours to get food to a customer nor would a manager ever berate a customer for complaining. They would however defend themselves if someone was being extremely rude to them. A couple of questions for you; Did you ever bother to look around and see how busy we may have been? Did you ever bother to notice that our grill (which is easy to see and crammed behind our bar) is the size a small coffee table and that even the fastest cook will never be able to get your food out to you in 15 mins on a busy night? Did you even look at the menu to see that almost every single food item is under $10 and you just happened to pick the most expensive one? Do you even like beer or know anything about it except how much you like your Bud Light? Oh and, please, you complain that the food is greasy but you ordered a Cheesesteak sandwich. Were the fries too greasy too?
Give me a break!
If you want 5 star service you go to Ruth's Chris and spend money on your meal. If you want a fun place to chill out with friends and get some BAR food then you go to the Hillsdale Pub.
Absolutely Terrible experience again.
Although I do not have very high expectations for McMenamins, Hillsdale has consistently gone above and beyond to provide some of the worst service around. Wednesday night last week our beer tasted like soap, our server was absent and rude when he was there and it took 1.5 hours to get a burger cooked up. When I had the audacity to ask for some recompense (even a verbal apology or an acknowledgment of the problem) the manager disputed the validity of my concerns and proceeded to verbally harangue me in front of staff and customers simply for having complained. I emailed McMenamins to let them know the situation, but of course, they are living up to their customer service reputation and have not responded.
Specifics: beer tasted like soap, took 1 hr 45 minutes to get our food, the food was excessively greasy and poorly prepared.
