Mediocre food, mediocre service..
Champion's came highly recommended by co-workers who often go there for lunch or happy hour.
Upon arriving I was impressed by the sunny, airy atmosphere and prompt attention from their wait staff. Aside from that, I failed to see what keeps others coming back.
The water with lemon we ordered came without lemon, and the waitress had to be reminded of our request. I had the garden burger with fries - first asking the waitress if it was a garden burger or Boca burger, which she had to run to the back to find out (she's a waitress, shouldn't she know this?) and she had to ask what my choice of cheese was only ten seconds after taking the order. The burger was decent, but the fries were sub-par with a fast-food taste similar to what gives Burger King fries their distinct flavor and sludge feeling on the roof of your mouth. My friend ordered the french dip with a salad, and her sandwich looked great (this coming from me, a vegetarian) but she received fries instead of the salad she ordered. She had to ask the kitchen expeditor for her salad, and then had to remind the waitress of her dressing choice.
In short, I could get a better burger & fries in a local eatery any day. The Lotus is only a few blocks away, and the service and food selection is much better.
Delightfully Surprised. Champions is a great sports bar. It's not a place to go and meet people, but it is a great place to watch a game with your existing friends. The bar has tons of televisions (including two big screens) and has awesome drink and happy hour specials. It is a very clean and refreshing atmosphere and best of all is relatively smoke free!!! Helpful hint if you are going for a whole day of sports, go early and head to the leather couches in the corner. You will feel and home and won't ever want to leave...
Not As Popular as it used to be.
Ten to fifteen years ago, Champion's was one of the major hot spots of downtown....of course, back then there was not much else to choose from.
Champion's is now your typical hotel bar/nightclub, in a Marrriot Hotel. There is nothing wrong with Champion's....just that there are more exciting venues elsewhere...
I was in town on business back in September, and visited the place mid-week. Service was great (so nice to be able to smoke in Oregon bars!), but there was only a couple other people in there, mostly keeping to themselves, so I moved on.
I don't know what the weekends are like, but imagine that it's much more busy.
