Portland's preeminent anarchist collective cafe, Red & Black regular hosts events focused on class equality, justice and local patient/provider collectives. Come get involved with local, grassroots politics, or just show up for a good cup of joe and a satisfying veggie sandwich.

A worker-owned vegan anarchist café that plays host to many progressive group meetings and events. Great coffee, beer & Kombucha. Food can be hit/miss.
Vile food, vile staff!!!. I have lived in this neighborhood for years and every time I give this place another chance, I have a terrible experience!! The food is awful but nowhere near as bad as their anarchist staff. They take pride in their anger and take it out on the customers.
Disgusting!. The rudest, angriest staff you'll ever see. The food is as disgusting as their attitudes. Avoid at all costs!
Not a place you want to go. This place bills it self as a "safe place" to have coffee, enjoy music, ect. That may be what they say but that is not what they practice. If you don't fit into there small mold of what is "good" you will feel like a leper and may be asked to leave. Going in there in a suit after work makes you a mark for glares. Above that, food and coffee are blah at best. Save yourself the pain and waste of money and go to a more welcoming cafe. You and everyone else will thank you
Not Tolerant As they Claim.
These are the guys who kicked out a cop who stopped in for a cup of coffee. This is despite their alleged "Tolerance Policy"
"We strive to eliminate any oppressive actions, behaviors, and language in this space. These include, but are not limited to, racism, sexism, ageism, sizeism, classism, ableism, transphobia and heterosexism. We want this to be a comfortable space for everyone."
Obviously, that's a lie.
Is there less than a one star rating?. There is only one reason you would go here. You are a criminal. Terrible food, filthy place with filthy people. I should have opened my eyes before I walked into that place cause if I had, I wouldn't. Gave me wrong change intentionally and one sip of the soy latte and I was done. The remainder of my order went into the garbage, right where this place belongs.
Stay away from this place. I wouldn't wish this place on my worst enemy. Stay away. Lot's of other Vegan places that are friendly--not this one. Do yourself a favor and save your money.
Terrible. If they don't like the way you look, they'll take your money, THEN tell you to leave. Then, they'll go on their Facebook page and try to brag about their freedom, but they have forgotten that freedom was bought and paid for by America's heroes and would be gone in a flash without them.
Dirty Food, Bad Business Practices. First, I ate there several months ago and would never eat the food there again. The staff were not very clean looking and my warm dish was barely luke-warm! Secondly, in a more recent event that made it to print, the management proved to be very bigoted and rude. This makes for a no-win, no-way-in-hell would I return or recommend this arm pit to anyone situation.
Bad food and filthy. The food is horrible. the employees don't wash their hands. I will never eat here or recommend it to anyone. You would be wise to avoid this place.
