Food was really poor quality. Beef and Chicken was yuck and Fish Taco was not much better Cadillac Margaritta was good.
The Chicken and Beef in my was of very poor quality. The fish taco we also had was yuck. We had not been to the Iron Horse for a few years so WOW it has really gone down hill.
It used to be a great place for good margarita's and food.
never again.
I realy don't know how a person could give this place a one star. I would like to rate it at o or less. The food was not what we ordered, cold and after trying to order a beverage( four times) I finaly gave up and drank water. When the bill came I was charged with all four plus a 18% gratuity. The gratuity is mandatory but after another fifteen minutes the drinks were removed. I would never recomend this place to anyone and will be happy to tell everyone about the poor service and ever lower quality food.
Small portons, way over priced, poor service. Not a good mix.....
Here's the scoop. I'm not sure how the last reviewer picked this place based on "mostly positive reviews". If you look at the ratings, they have 18 negative and only 7 positive. That should give anyone an idea of what you are in for. We have lived nearby for 20 years, and yes the restaurant has changed. Several years ago the prices started to rapidly climb and the food quality started to falter (not sure if the ownership changed) . Today, the appeal here is the fact they can take large groups and are kid friendly. The prices are much higher than most Mexican restaurants, in fact too high, while the food quality is average at best. The margaritas have never been very good, but are served in a large tumbler so you think you are getting allot for your money. The portion sizes are also smaller than they used to be. I have never had any issues with the service, and the food is always served very quickly. With the high prices and average food, I had to give a rating of only 2 stars,
A delightful Sunday dinner experience. My parents wanted to eat Mexican food for their 51st anniversary and after some research we decided on Iron Horse. I found mostly positive reviews. So, unlike most of the messages here we enjoyed our experience. The menu had a variety of options to choose from including vegetarian. I had the dungeonness Crab Enchilada and it was fantastic. They were not skimpy on the crab, there were big chunks of crab throughout the dish. The salad that came with the dish was fabulous. My dad loved his taco salad, as my mom enjoyed her tostado. The service was quick and friendly. We did dine between 5 and 6pm. There was a steady stream of customers coming in the door while we were there, but the service did not suffer. I would highly recommend this restaurant. There are many dishes on the menu I want to try like the Mahi Mahi fish tacos. We had plenty of leftovers and they tasted just as good the next day.
Over priced. A real cute place inside and out and very clean. The people were very nice and we had fast service. The food was ok, compared to other mexican type food, I have had better. This is my first time to massage, but felt I needed to because the food was way over priced for the quality and presentation. I felt the food was hastily put together without thought or any love for the food. I would never go back.
way over priced. my friends and i are no strangers to expensive meals in portland, in fact we are known to drop a ton of money at PF Changs like it doesnt matter. While i do LOVE the taquitos at Iron Horse and sometimes the margaritas (depending on who makes them) i refuse to pay what i pay at PF CHANGS for 6 people at iron horse for 4 people. especially when the food isnt that great, the beer is warm, and you never get your appetizers. i wont go back until the prices go back down
my most disappointing restaurant experience in Portland. This bland food was way overpriced for the quality (avg. $13/ entree). It seemed as though most of the ingredients had come out of a bag or a can. Both dishes I tried lacked flavor. I couldn't finish my meal. Typically I finish my food and my partner's leftovers, too, but this was downright unappetizing. So I went home and made something myself. The one redeeming factor: I didn't get sick.
okay not great.
I don't know how this joint got put on the top ten list!! Come on Portland!! Where are our standards??!!
Friendly service good with kids. Bland Boring food!! Will not go back. Just okay for me. If I'm gonna spend $12-$15 per plate I expect better than this.
Sub-par in every way. The food is standard American Mexican restaurant fare, with little actual Mexican influence. You can get better, more authentic food from any number of restaurants and carts today.
How does this place get ranked so well.
I guess people only want to say good things unless they have a truly bad experience, but how helpful is that?
Iron horse isn't terrible, it isn't even bad per se - but if i'm paying for anything, "not bad" isn't what i'm paying for. With so many good choices, why settle for this
Service was slow and with an attitude. Food was mediocre, on the bland side, overcooked, oily, and didn't taste fresh
