In Short
Southwestern-themed prints and images of Kokopelli, the Hopi god of merriment, add interest to the terracotta-colored dining room. Many diners have been regulars for 20-plus years and exchange banter on topics from movies to politics. After washing down chips and salsa with an icy margarita, newcomers are apt to chime in. Soft and crispy tacos, shrimp quesadillas, and specials like crab enchiladas come with fresh green salad or rice and beans a la olla.

This is our favorite place in the neighborhood. We come as often as we can and we love the enchiladas and drinks. Our daughter loves the flautas and is always excited to see Terry and Larry. They make us feel at home and our bellies satisfied. The spicy green chile sauce packs a wallop and the margaritas are perfect.

First, the server forgot our guacamole appetizer. When we asked for it again there was no apology or even an "oops!" It came just about the same time as the entrees. The green enchildada sauce that was described as the "the spiciest we have" was bland and unremarkable. The Zuni pie was bland- not even the cheese tasted good. How do you mess up cheese? There wasn't even hot sauce on the table to save us. The server didn't come back to check on how the food was- we would have asked him then. When we finished the meal- rather gave up on it- the server cleared our plates and we waited for a bill. After 10 minutes none came. He came back and again confirmed we wanted nothing further. He refilled my empty iced tea glass with sticky sweet warm lemonade. Another 10 minutes, still no tab. After sitting for 25 minutes with a clear table & no bill we started estimating the cash to leave & move on with our evening. My husband went to give him our estimated amount, and he hadn't even added up our ticket yet. Other bummers- there was no music- it was eerily quiet; tacky plastic plants; and the prices were high. We eat out a lot, and rarely have we had such bad service AND crappy food. Never again.

My wife and I eat in the Adobe Rose every special occasion we have. The review called it good Tex-Mex but New Mexican cuisine is different. Terry and Larry rock! The green chile is great and I would recommend any dish on the menu. You have to love a place that doesn't look at you like you are crazy when you order an over-easy egg on your enchiladas.

Know Before You Go:
This owner-operated establishment is health- and environmentally-conscious, using green power and no trans or saturated fats.
What to Drink:
South of the Border beers Corona and Negra Modelo share billing with Northwest favorites like Widmer Hefeweizen. For a little more sting, order the Cactus Juice cocktail, made of lemonade and grenadine spiked with vodka.
