A copied idea?. I was surprised to find Adobe Rose Cafe in Portland! My friend, Candy Weirhan, with her mom and dad started the original Adobe Rose Cafe in Albuquerque, NM in 1984/85, located across the street from the Fair Grounds on Central Ave. Their truly authentic New Mexican food and menu was absoutely great...it just does not get much better than what they served. Their Adobe Rose was sold and in its place, another fast food cafe began. I'm wondering how the folks who run Adobe Rose in Portland, apparently borrowed Candy's original concept and began what can't hold a candle to the original? View Less … View More
If you don't have time to fly to NM...go to Sellwood. We do not live in this part of town and to get our chile fix we both agree to go to the Adobe Rose whenever the topic comes up! The enchiladas swim in green chile and having lived in Albuquerque for a decade, the hanky comes out and proves its hot and tasty. The lunch crowd proves there are plenty of followers and the staff are some of the most personable we've met. I roasted twenty pounds of chile on my barbecue a few years ago, but the Adobe Rose Cafe makes it a lot easier. Besides, my freezer supply has run out. View Less … View More
Great Authentic New Mexican Cooking!. I grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico and developed a taste of fresh green and red chile and I have to say that Adobe Rose is true to the meaning of new mexican cuisine. The service is fast, friendly and prompt. The Stuffed Sopapillas are amazing and was not skimpy when it came to smothering the plate with delicious red and green chile sauce. Their portions are huge and an incredible price for what you get. I highly recommend this restaurant to Portlanders who want a true taste of New Mexico. View Less … View More
Worst food I have ever eaten!!!!!!!. We should have known as we walked in and heard our voices echo off the walls but we decided to give it a shot since it is in our neighborhood. I ordered the tex-mex plate which consisted of canned refried beans wrapped in a tortilla and covered in canned enchilada sauce and cheese. My soft taco was boiled chicken with NO seasoning at all and badly chopped lettuce, tomatoes and cheese!!! None of our food had ANY flavor and was obviously constructed by someone that was not and never was a chef...not even a cook. Taco Bell beats this awful experience. View Less … View More
