Terrific neighborhood theater. Portland is great for cheap movie theaters; the Moreland theater stands out though, because while other theater might be cheaper, they have second run movies. The Moreland has first run movies at prices below the matinee costs of a multi-plex. Their concessions are reasonable, and the theater itself is lovely: big, and old-timey. When we left the owner stood by the door saying goodbye and thanking us. Help keep this neighborhood jewel open!

A mix of first runs, art films and lesser known treats in a 1923 golden oldie with a mom and pop feel.. In Short
High ceilings, rich colors and architectural flourish make you pine for the B.C. (Before Cineplexes) era. Everything about the Moreland is old-fashioned: Concession prices are affordable, and the owners are chatty and friendly. Even the bathrooms are throwbacks--they're upstairs on the second floor. Film quality is a little grainy and the sound is no THX, but the made for necking, spring action seats are spacious and cushy, the popcorn fresh and the air conditioning arctic.

Great old Theater -- new sound/projectn. Enjoy a step back to the past with this place without losing a good movie view experience!

This is an example of one of the few older theaters in the Portland area that remains running some first run films. Their prices are less expensive than the cineplex folks, seats are more comfortable (cushy), and it has that old theater ambiance.

They have update the sound system to Dolby Digital, and have updated their projection equipment as well -- so the movie experience should be as good (although not THX) as in most cineplex theaters.

Here's another thought -- by going here you will be supporting a local business instead of one of the faceless conglomerate corporations that just take the profits out of the area.

Wonderful. This theater is great! It is small, homey, and comfortable. It is also very clean. I like the idea of supporting small businesses rather than the huge multiplexes and besides that, the movies are less expensive. I highly recommend it!
