Great Quality. I love your food! It is high quality, presentable, affordable and in my neighborhood. What I don't understand, is that you allow no substitutions...as in you have mushrooms in the kitchen but won't let me add any to my eggs unless I want to create my own omlet??/But I just want to add mushrooms That is 1) very, very poor customer service and 2) implies you have an incompetent chef who can only do what is prescribed. Please, please change this policy.

Coffee unlike any other. A little jaded or numb to coffee? This will give you a nice "Ah ha" experience.

BAD, BAD customer service. First off, let me say the waitress was wonderful and tried to make up for what happened. It was the manager that was horrible:

My mother in law and I went for a spa day at Malu across the street (FABULOUS). I wanted to "keep it local" so we went to John Street Cafe for lunch. I'd been there once before and just wasn't all that impressed. Fairly expensive, mediocre food.

I ordered a $13 chicken quesadilla. It didn't have a lot of flavor, but every quesadilla is different. I found a small bone in the first bite I took. Okay--that happens, it was small, no biggie. By the 3 piece I found a chicken wing!!!!! Not just a 2-inch bone, but the bone, a joint and another bone! I couldn't eat anymore because I was grossed out. I told the waitress what happened and showed her the wing. She was appalled and apologize profusely. She took it back to the kitchen and the manager said, "Well it's not like we meant to put it in there. It was a mistake. If she doesn't want it, too bad." WE. COULD. HEAR. HER!!!

We were offered NO compensation! I would have been happy to pay half, I did eat the soup and almost 1/2 of the quesadilla.

Seriously? I will NEVER be back and I will tell everyone I know to avoid it. You just can't be so horrible to customers in a town where there's a great breakfast around every corner. John Street Cafe, I'm done with you!

not good for business lunches. since they have a small place, we wanted to place an order for pick up to take back to our work.

they have no menu online and they can not fax menus.

the lady on the phone had horrible customer service skills and just wanted to get off the phone. she said the only way to get a menu is to come get it.

so much for Johns Cafe, we took our business to Patties homeplate Cafe, which is a more freindly hometown cafe. it has been in St Johns since before i was in school.

CLOSED MONDAY AND TUESDAY. I believe this restaurant is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Can I please ask a citysearch employee to correct the days & hours listing of this restaurant, and then delete my "review" ? Thanks!

Best food in St. Johns and worth the trip to St. Johns all on its own. John Street Cafe is by far the best restaurant in St. Johns and is on a par with most other quality places you go in Portland. I've never had a bad meal there. The breakfasts are unghodly good and the pancakes are a religious experience for some. Lunches are innovative, fresh and delicious and in all things they use excellent ingredients. They have unusual hours and between this and the fact that I'm a very late riser on weekends, I don't go there for breakfast as often as I go other places, but I wish I did. Service is always good, thought they are often really busy on weekends and tough to get in to. I've waited for a table most times I've been there on a weekend. Everything is good. People who visit us that we take there cannot believe we are hiding this place away from the rest of Portland. Once discovered it becomes an excuse for friends and business associates to come to our neck of the woods. We're lucky to have them.

Excellent Breakfasts & Friendly Service!. This is a great place to have an incredible breakfast. There is limited seating, so usually will find a short wait. Well worth standing around, the staff always offers warm coffee for those of us waiting outside. Also you can check out what everyone else is eating.. this is how I found out what I wanted during the first visit. "The Special of the Day"... a huge pancake with green apples, filberts, and berries. Absolutely devine! Great friendly service in a small neighborhood atmosphere. Don't forget to have a slice of pumpkin bread or bannana bread while you wait for your meal. The omlet with peppers, onions, cheese, avacado and bacon was fabulous as well. It was served with toast and potaoto wedges.

This place is an Absolute must if you are in the niegborhood..! Family friendly.

Horrible Customer Service - very disappointed!!. Wow, was I expecting something different. After hearing good reviews and walking by this place a million times and seeing it so crowded I expected something very different. First my partner and I walk in wait to be seated, then notice a list with four peoples names written on it - though we are the only people standing there and no one else appears to be waiting for tables we wrote our names down. (Note there was a table open with two seats). While we waited, two other men came in saw the list with now five people "waiting," when really only two people were waiting and immediately walked out. We were soon seated because, of course there were not four other people waitied. Now, my partner and I are vegetarian and I'm vegan. Now most restaurantsat least have one things on the menu we can order. I ordered the black bean tortilla and asked if I could have the avacodo and sourcream taken off. The waitress told me I could not have the sourcream taken off. Now, I'm sorry, but some people are 1) lactose intolerant, 2) vegan, 3) just don't like sour cream and though I understand "no substitutions" asking to have something removed from a tortilla, is not a substitution.

This restaurants complete inability to manage it's seating list, and accommodate dietary restrictions, shows that it must be catering do an exclusive clientel and not worried about it's business. So if you are wanting good customer service, and have any dietary restrictions -- don't eat here, because apparently business is fine without you! I give this restaurant and F+

Best place in St. John's. This is a great spot in St. John's. The service is exceptional and the food is consistently good. They never let your coffee cup get less than half full.
