We've been eating at Lorn and Dotties
for 20 years. Through owner-transfers, weird hours, etc...
By FAR, the BEST pancakes your mouth will ever taste. It's so obvious that the authors of "Best Pancakes in Portland" never took even 1 bite of L&Ds pancakes. They will change your life.
Everything else they make is excellent too. I heard a rumor that they were re-opening on 1 day during the weekend.... I'm there!
This place is great; great atmosphere; excellent service and the food is really really good. The prices are reasonable, let's just say you get what you pay for, no skimping here. You want a smaller portion just let Uki or another one of her staff know and they will take care of you, they're also open now on Sundays too. See ya for breakfast, it's off the hook!!!
This is a great local downtown eatery.
Open only for breakfast and lunch. Good, old-fashioned food in pleasant, spacious surroundings.
The new owners just re-opened for Sunday breakfast. (The wife of the nice young couple who just bought it has worked there as a server for years.)
It is one of the best breakfasts in town and breakfast is served all day. Highly recommended!
cozy and friendly - recommend this for lunch.
My husband and I stopped in the other morning for some breakfast. The place was cozy and the service was good. Our server was very friendly and kept our coffee cups full even though it seemed like she was the only one working.
The jalapeno cornbread was amazing! My husband had the banana pecan hotcakes - melt in your mouth delicious! The potato cakes had a good flavor too but were a tiny bit too greasy.
The breakfast food also seemed a bit overpriced. I understand that food prices have gone up due to the economy, but $9 for a breakfast sandwich? Over $3 for a bagel or $2.50 for toast? That's too much.
I had a look at the lunch menu though and it seemed like this was were the real deals were at. $5.95 for teriyaki chicken? That's a steal! Most meals were around $6.95 and came with soup or salad. We'll be back to give lunch a try!
I won't waste my money there anymore.. I guess they changed the owner and the cook. The taste is bad compare couple months ago. The food was very greasy and the service is very bad. I won't waste my money to go there agin.
Downtown luncheonette with reliable lunch and boast-worthy brunch..
In Short
Black-and-white historical photos litter the midnight-blue walls. The sit-down counter complete with stools and antique table lamps add an old-time diner vibe. Lunch is straightforward with sandwiches like the BLT, as is dinner with burgers and salads. Brunch offers an array of scrambles loaded with fillings. The Greek scramble is herbed and laden with pepper bacon, feta, black olives, spinach and capers. Cinnamon toast is sweet and gooey--a favorite among regulars.
I won't be back. I'm not a tough one to please but I was not impressed today. Very slow service, and the food was a step above Shari's. It wasn't greasy mind you, but $9 for a breakfast scramble should be better. The food was bland, a $3 "large" OJ was tiny. About the only flavor in the scramble was from the sausage. I couldn't taste the eggs or any other ingredients besides some unrecognizable herb that was overpowering. It wasn't hideous, but I'll not waste my money there again.
I'll definitly go back. My dad introduced me to this place and I love it. I love their eggs Chaucer (soft boiled eggs over a bed of spinich in a mushroom cream sauce). I crave it. Wonderful place to go for brunch but it is so popular you may have a hard time getting a seat on the weekend. Great place to go with family or friends.
Our Favorite Breakfast Place. This has been our absolute favorite breakfast place for years. Fantastic service, excellent ambience and great food. Weekend special any day is my favorite. Also try Greek or Italian eggs--hubby's favorite! Best homemade jalapeno cornbread on the planet. Prices aren't the cheapest, but I'd say they're average for the places we eat in Portland, and are a good value considering the food, location, service and ambience. How anyone couldn't love this place is beyond me!
Terrible.. This place is terrible. I had hoped by the looks of it, it would be an "East Coast Diner". No dice. The quality of everything I had was terrible - old produce and dry bread. And *definitely* not worth the price. Oh, and our waitress was borderline offensive.
