Editorial Review for Berbati's Pan – by Anne Marie DiStefano

In Short
Entering from Second Avenue, suburbanite singles and hip music fans coexist in the dim, echoing lounge. There's space for a long bar, dining tables and a sizable pool room. The Third Avenue doorway leads to the the dark, cavernous nightclub, complete with two full bars, stage, lights and sound system. Pan (the nightclub) books some of the most popular alternative acts that come through town. DJ dance parties fill in the off-nights.

Good happy hour deals draw a diverse after-work crowd. Weekdays 4pm-7pm, get $2 microbrews and well drinks, plus a discounted menu.

Save Time

When the main bar is swamped during a big show, try hitting the smaller one tucked back behind the soundboard.

On the Menu

Open until midnight, the kitchen mixes reliable Greek specialties, plus items like miso and curry.

On the weekends they sometimes play some old school late 90's rap and r&b but it is a great dance and meeting place. Great atmosphere.

Pros: Great music most of the time

Cons: Gets crowded

I used to go here for Happy Hour with several co-workers. Their Happy Hour deals are great, and we'd often stay even later (aka--spending more money). That all stopped one night when we ordered some drinks 20 minutes before the end of happy hour and were charged full price. When we confronted the waitress, she told us "happy hour goes by THEIR clock", then proceeded to ask if I wanted another "drinky-poo" and make fun of my order to the bartender. As I shared the story with my co-workers, she came and put her arm around me and asked if I had a problem. We then put down our money (minus tip) and left. We never went back.
