This downtown darling is wildly popular with the brunch set and tourists, so beware the lines. I generally get the wild salmon hash.

Lisa, the owner & chef is very involved in her popular brunch spot & maybe that's why "It's like mother's cooking, but better," still.

I took my family here for an early morning Sunday breakfast and it was fabulous. Wonderful service, delicious food and so beautiful and classy inside. I don't necessarily recommend the corn flake french toast, but I can attest to everything else my family ordered, especially the eggs Benedict and waffle.

This recommendation speaks directly to the Velvet Lounge cafe/bar to the right as you enter Mother's. The black, ivory and gold tones and eye catching chandeliers set the scene for elevated casualness. Sit at the granite bar or in one of the cozy banquets. Coffee and pastry in the mornings followed up by cocktails and small bites in the afternoon.
Just moved to Portland and was so lucky to find this place. Aside from the wait, everything was just incredible. It'll be the place I bring family to when they visit.
Food is ALWAYS amazing, staff ALWAYS amazing and atmosphere ALWAYS amazing. Cannot possibly go wrong. I like to go to the lounge and gawk at their pastry case.
This is a cute and classy establishment. The food is excellent and service is good. The decor is beautiful, vintage mirrors, chandeliers, lots of natural light. Brunch here is a must for anyone coming to/living in Portland.
Oh so good. Awesome happy hour. $3 snack size food with your drinks? Sure I'll have a few.
Taking my business elsewhere. Recently went here for dinner and won't be returning. Food is mediocre at best. The primary (and only) seasoning appears to be salt, salt and more salt. Service was decent, but the food is terrible. An insult to mother's everywhere.
Great Food. Our family usually goes for Sunday brunch. The food is always excellent and I just adore the Wild Salmon Hash. The line can be a little long though but it's well worth the wait.
Be Nice or Leave.
There is a sign on the wall, "Be Nice or Leave." The staff should sincerely take this to heart. Really bad service from start to finish. I had called ahead of time to ask about a table and was told it was ok to come in at 5 pm. They neglected to say that we would need to sit in the bar. Well, that was ok, but not what we wanted. We had quite a few different people serving our table. All were rude. I don't say this lightly.
However, once the food got to our table, it was very good. I had chicken and dumplings which was delicious. My dinner-mate The portions are very large so the remaining was lunch the next day. The desserts are decent as well.
However, we won't be back. The servers, as well as the manager (or whoever that was) need a class in customer service. Badly.
Great Breakfast.
I went to read reviews this morning to see what people were giving great raves about for breakfast before going. I could not believe the bad ones. We have been there many times and it is slower with a big crowd of 12, but ALWAYS great food! This morning I had the Wild Salmon hash, mmm good!! (My wife usually gets it and I take some bites.)
My favorite is the Biscuit Breakfast with country sausage gravy. It's not a heavy flour tasting gravy. Try it, its really good.
