Standard Kimpton eclectic-whimsical décor, friendly staff, extreme pet-friendliness, onsite Aveda spa and Red Star Tavern restaurant/bar, and complimentary evening wine reception woos even the most jaded of travelers.
One of the most pet-friendly hotels ever. There's no additional charge for pets, there are no size, weight, or breed restrictions, no limit on the number of pets allowed, and you don’t have to pay a deposit. They have a pet ambassador, Timmy the yellow lab, who can be found lounging in his over-stuffed dog bed in the lobby or wagging his tail happily as he welcomes your pet during check-in.
Hotel Monaco is great!. We love this hotel and stay here whenever we come to town. The rooms are spacious and the staff is SO helpful and kind. Book the romance package, they deliver champagne and sprinkle rose petals on your bed...LOVE IT!
Portland must be moving up!. This hotel is up there with the best of them. Not only is the decor fun and funky while maintaining class, the service is unbelievable. The staff bend over backwards to make even the most mundane of hotel stays something to write home about. I recently stayed for a business meeting and found the entire experience (meeting not included) delightful. My dealings with the sales/conference people went smoothly and they worked hard to accomodate my group's every need. The front desk and bellmen, etc. really made the stay special by remembering my name and making genuine, friendly conversation with me throughout my time there. The wine hour is also something else; during my stay the hotel brought in Voodoo Doughnuts to compliment the wine! It was kitcshy and cute--not to mention delicious. One last thing is Art, the hotel Lobby Dog. His big personality is like icing on the cake. The special touches this hotel is committed to are why I will look for Kimpton hotels whenever I travel.
Best Hotel In Portland!!. I've been to Portland many times and this hotel knocks all of the other ones out of the park!! The staff is fantastic, the rooms are beautiful, the wine hour is so great. Also, what a great LOOKING staff from the front desk to the bellmen and valets...oh my! And they have a dog named Art who's sooo cute!!! I recommend this hotel to everyone!
Terrible customer service in sales office.
Planning a wedding long distance is hard enough without the extra headaches from hotel monaco.
We planned to use this hotel for out of town guests for our wedding, but regret the day we contacted Hotel Monaco. They drafted a contract and blocked in our rooms based on PRELIMINARY conversations. Then showed no flexibility and were unwilling to accomodate us for a larger number of guests. we needed to increase the number of rooms and they REFUSED. they also refused to allow guests to come the night before.
Reservations, sales, and the director all told me the only choice we had was for guests to pay full price for friday night and get the discounted rate on saturday. Wrong there was another choice, we booked our block of rooms at the Westin.
Great hotel ,worth every penny. I really enjoyed my stay the room was great not a great view but thats okay ,because the staff was great the room was huge and clean it had awesome robes I had an allergic reaction to the soap they found me benadryl at midnight and ordered a limo to get us back to the train station early in the morning , the concierge was a little odd, pink hair and all but it was a great trip i would stay there again
One of the best hotels in downtown Portland. The last weekend of Spring Break, my boyfriend and I decided to take a weekend away for ourselves and stay downtown. We found Hotel Monaco through Citysearch and decided to try it out. We got a great deal from their website by making reservations 14 days in advance. When we got there, the people were great, but discovered that we did not have a plasma TV and DVD player in our room, which the site stated we should (and what we reserved for). After my boyfriend mentioned this on our way back to our room before dinner, the front desk person was great. She stated that some of the renovations were done, but that was one that wasn't. They had the TV's and DVD's but didn't have the furnature yet to put them in. For our trouble, she gave us a complimentry contential breakfast for our room, and free Valet parking (which at $27 was great!). We had a wonderful nights stay, and great service all around. Not only that, but dinner at the Red Star was wonderful! We would love to stay there again for weekend get aways, not to far from home. It's a great hotel to stay even if you just want a place to crash downtown after a night of partying!
Artsy, luxurious boutique hotel offers a historic setting for your stay in the heart of the city..
The Scene
Built in 1912, this former Fifth Avenue Suites is now a Kimpton property. Its eclectic elegance and downtown location make it ideal for tourists who want to be close to the action and business travelers seeking excellent service. Hotel guests often head to one of the nearby theaters for an after-dinner movie show or to a club for a concert.

For those looking to be pampered, the hotel has nightly turndown service and a Mind.Body.Spa program offering an on-demand exercise channel and in-room spa services. Other amenities include complimentary on-site fitness center, organic morning coffee and nightly wine reception in the lobby. The adjoining Red Star restaurant specializes in wood-fired oven fare and supplies the hotel's 24-hour room service.
Great Boutique Hotel. A true Portland gem. Fifth Avenue Suites is one of my favorite hotels in Portland. I held my 35th birthday a few years back and booked out 5 rooms for friends and myself. The staff was fantastic, the room decor amazing, and we were all extremely comfortable.
Great shopping getaway. My husband and I return every year to this hotel to shop and just enjoy downtown Portland, its walking distance to everything. We love boutique hotels and this is defiantely at the top of our list, from the moment you walk in the door you feel the warmness of the place.
Best Hotel ever. WOW...I do not know where to start. My girlfriend and I had tickets to the Capitol Steps show on election night, and decided to make a romantic night downtown out of it. I tried to get in the Heathman, Paragon, and the Vintage Plaza, but all were booked. When I was talking to the Vintage Plaza they informed of the 5th avenue suites and it was another Kimpton Hotel, so I jumped on it. I booked a king suite with the Romance Package. From the get go I know it was going to be a good night. We arrived at the hotel and used the valet parking since it was included on our package. The check in was easy and everyone was really nice and polite. The interior of the hotel was almost 18th Century Georgian with a little modern thrown in. Very nice. The free wine reception was nice also, although we didn't stick around very long since we had champagne in the room, plus I am more of a bourbon man, which just by chance I had nice bottle with me. When we walked into our room, our mouths dropped. The room was awesome and very big. A nice big bathroom that you could increase or dim the lights in. The sitting room was nice and the rose petals on the bed, champagne on the table, with romantic music playing on the radio...very nice touch guys...keep up the good work. The Red Star was also top notch. I will rate them on their on page. We will definitely be back!!! If you want to be pampered and have a relaxing stay.......this is the place!!!!
