Don't even bother

I was so excited to hear that the Brasserie was open! I immediately contacted my friends for a birthday celebration. I wish I had never gone.
The first sign should have been when I almost tripped and fell on the voluminous, drapes in the entry way. And when we had to wait 20 minutes, despite having made reservations, I took it as a good sign...
We were waited on by a young man that had NO real previous knowledge of the original Brasserie. Conspicuously missing was the trade mark butcher paper and crayons...they are going green, so our young waiter informed us. Okay, I'm thinking, I'll get over the paper/crayons. Now lets get to what is really important in a restaurant: FOOD. Lets start with the appetizer. We ordered the baby lobster tails...were they serious? 2 tiny dry lobster tails with tomato puree, $14. If you are going to put items from the past on the menu, they should taste the same way. My husband ordered the baked brie...which was also totally different. I also noticed that the warm bread was missing. There were no entres that we recognized from before. I don't know how you can call a restaurant the same name and have everything be different. We were so dissapointed that we did not order dinner. Bottom line, if you are looking for the good food and good times you experienced before at the Brasserie..you won't find it. I wouldn't waste your money or time...Guess it's true, you can't go home again. So much for my birthday celebration.
- Cons: Menu is awful
They are back, but under new ownership....

I was really looking forward to the same food or least something close...they need to go back to the old menu and serve it like that. The new menu is smaller by far and doesnt have all the great entrees. We ordred the baby lobster tails and steamed mussels. We used to get 4-5 tails in a bubbly garlic, butter sauce and we got 2 cold medium sized tails, and one was not cooked all the way. The mussels were not that hot, merely luke warm and the bread was brought to us sliced and cold. It used to come warm and covered. I ordered a Bacardi and diet coke and the waiter came back to tell me they didn't have bacardi. No Bacardi??? The menu's font is sooo small you need a magnifying glass to read it. I am sooooo dissappointed with our visit, I don't see us going back. We passed on entrees after the appetizers were so poor. Pray they change back....
- Cons: Not the same menu
Excited about the re-opening
by Paul1957
Lived in downtown PDX for 20+years and the Bras was always my favorite. Jazz music, good app's, cocktails and always, always a great time. Many great memories. Looking forward to the re-opening and a continuing tradition. GOOD LUCK!!!
- Pros: Deep fried artichokes and brie w/apple
