A FIND !
Leo's Coffee Shop. Immediately adjacent to the Main Branch of the Multnomah County Library. West on Yamhill, next to the MAX line.
Ample food, reasonable prices, friendly service, and Fountain Specials ! How many places still have both chocolate AND vanilla Malts? AND Old Fashioned Milk Shakes.
This reminds me of an old fashioned Woolworth lunch counter, including the decor.
If you arrive deep into the lunch hour service please cut the present owner, Peter, a little slack. As he freely admits: "No young anymore!"
& "Leo, was long time ago". The place is original to the building, 1929.
837 SW 11Th Avenue, phone 503-228-1866. Open Monday - Friday, 6:30 AM to 3:30 PM. No Credit or Debit Cards please.

Try it once - you'll return.. Tasty breakfast, hot coffee, a fresh newspaper - what a way to start your day! Lunch is a fine bargain, too. But it's Leo himself who keeps bringing back the customers. Gracious service in a feel-good-kind-of-way. This small old-fashioned coffee shop is one of my favorite places in Portland. A beloved city icon.
Inexpensive Old School diner.
Want bacon and eggs or a BLT in a hurry and for not much money? Head to Leo's!
Leo's is in the heart of the city, right behind the Central Library. Look for the window in the Medical Dental Arts Bldg. that says "Leo's No Smoking".
Leo himself greets you and hands you several newspapers as you sit down. The service here is great -- especially those covert coffee refills. It's typical diner fare, and it is tasty and super cheap.
It's a Portland institution that no one knows about. Eat there now!
Great Customer Service. Leo was an awesome man. His service and free papers make you feel like you're welcome. It made our breakfast experience that much more enjoyable. It has an old school diner feeling which was originial in such a large city. The breakfast was worth the money and it tastes like momma's cooking. I recommend going.
Great Customer Service in a Forgotten Landmark Location. Good food, old school diner environment, and the NICEST guy you'd ever want to meet (with cool hair). I highly recommend Leo's to anyone who wants a fast clean counter service lunch at a very reasonable price. Be sure to check out the Scarlet salon next door as well. This is a gorgeous shop AND the lobby of the Medical/Dental building is a beauty!!!
Best service in town. Leo is a gracious host, with a newspaper & the warmest smile I have ever seen. I usually go into this cafe after I have visited the dentist several stories up. I HATE the dentist but I always feel like I can diffuse with Leo and a grilled cheese sandwich before I head out to my car. I seriously have never been to a place that made me feel so good about myself. As I leave Leo will be commenting on the weather or something that I seemed to have forgotten to notice that day in my hurried life. He is thankful of his surroundings & you can't help but be drawn in, if only slightly to his possitive outlook. The door opens and behind me will be Leo waving generously thanking me for coming and reminding me to have a nice day...and I always do after leaving :)
