This architecturally and historically significant mansion is located near some of Portland's top attractions..
In Short
Built in 1886 in the prestigious King's Hill neighborhood, this seven-guest-room house is within walking distance of the trendy Northwest 23rd Avenue shopping and dining district, as well as downtown. The house sits just two blocks from Washington Park and all its treasures: Stroll around the International Rose Test Garden, Japanese Garden or the Metro Zoo. All rooms offer beds, cable television, a vanity/desk and a reading chair. Private baths are available with suites.
Improved MacMaster Houise 2006. I recently stayed at the MacMaster House and found that there have and are improvements still being made to the property. It is still in process but I would return again. The innkeepers were very warm and helpful and the breakfasts were delicious.
Good and will probably get better.
The location? Fantastic. Room quality? Super.
But the other reviews about MacMaster are about the previous owners.
The current, newish owners have two areas to improve. One is their service. It's not horrible. But it's perfunctory at best. And inconsistent.
Also, the house itself is starting to need some noticeable repairs. So it may not satisfy the pickiest customers.
We enjoyed our stay and had a great time in Portland (which rocks). But we'd probably try another B&B in Portland to see what they had to offer.
Improvements have been made to the structure. New stairs, New Paint, Part of entry have been rebuilt. The home was in disrepair when we arrived and there is ongoing maintenance and repairs being done.
A Secluded Retreat Downtown.
Who knew that within walking distance of some of the best shopping and eateries in Portland there could be an elegant inn with a warm reception!
This is a little known Inn that is in the heart of the city. For two years in a row, we have gathered friends for a terrific getaway. The innkeepers are warm and pleasant, without being intrusive. The food is delightful. The rooms are large, each with its own painted mural on the wall. The rates are so reasonable, you'll wonder why people ever stay the corporate hotels just blocks away.
Home Away from Home. We spent week of fourth of July in Portland and had a wonderful time at MacMaster House. It is located in the best part of town (near 23rd avenue, near Washington Park, near Zoo, etc.) Our hosts were incredible. Breakfasts were a treat (especially the red, white and blueberry cobbler that they baked for the 4th!!) Highest recommendations!
