I have been to Hickox, Edward Wadsworth, Magnum Opus and Evolution over the years. It seemed as though a stylist might do a great job on the color, but style not so great. Or, he might do a great cut, but the color was just not right. I decided to try the Richard Hererra Salon since it was close to my office and I had seen it for years. Melissa always does a great job on my color, and she and Raul have given me excellent cuts. They are both so very thoughtful when you visit, and have even tried to accommodate my busy schedule when I had to rush back to work. I am glad that I tried Richard Hererra; I don't know everyone there, but I am sure they are quality stylists, too.

This is an awesome salon. Go here for the best color/cut you'll find in Portland - and ask for Deborah. She's worked miracles on my hair. I feel like there's nothing she can't do (I have thick curly hair that's been three different colors since I started going to her). I've never had a cut I didn't like. Deborah really listens to what you want. She's smart, and cares a lot about giving you the cut/color you're looking for. I wish I knew more people in Portland who needed a stylist. You're missing out if you don't try this Salon, Deborah in particular.

I went To Richard Herrera to have my hair and make-up done for my wedding a few months ago, and boy was that a mistake. I came on time, thanked the stylists for helping me on my big day, and gave them a picture of what I wanted my hair to look like. It wasn't a hard style, so I hoped it would turn out alright. By the end, my hair looked flat, VERY messy, greasy, and definitely not like the picture that I gave to the hairdresser. I'm normally not the type to ask someone to do something multiple times, but I had to ask the hairstylist twice if she could do something else to make my hair look better. Both times, she reacted rudely and unprofessionally. In that department, I could've done my own hair for a cheaper price and a less hostile environment. And my hair never did turn out right, regardless of my constant pleas for a redo.



When I got to have my make-up done, it wasn't as bad. They did a good job. But, long story short, when a situation came up where I was emotionally distraught, the employee didn't say anything to me. She just coldly ran through her make-up routine with me and sent me to the cash register. I wasn't a bad customer, I had tried being friendly to the people who were helping me look good for my wedding day. But by the time I left, I felt like I'd been judged and denied by the popular girls cliche in high school. Coming here was the worst part of my wedding. And I definitely didn't feel welcome enough to come back.

One more comment as a side-note: although it was my wedding day and I went there specifically to get ready for it, I received no "congratulations" while I was there. Nothing. This detail doesn't bother me as much as the rest, but it still made me feel... neglected in a way. When I came out dressed in my wedding dress, they didn't say anything about how I looked or even a "good luck". All they said was "have a nice day" after my dad paid the $150 bill. I'm not angry at the people that worked with me or anything. I'm just sad that I didn't get to have that "princess" feeling as I got my hair and make-up done, like everyone said that I would. Like I said before, going here was definitely the most depressing part of my wedding day. I wouldn't encourage anyone to go here if they're looking for that same feeling.

Bride to be :). I did my hair and makeup trial with RH About Hair salon today and feel superbly confident in my salon choice.

The atmosphere was wonderful, asthetically pleasing as well as clean and well organized. The stylists were friendly and patient and worked with me and the pictures I brought in for inspiration to create a unique look for me.

They also did a trial with my mother in law (who is a total novice when it comes to hair and makeup and wanted a test run) and she looks beautiful! They also listened to things she said about her hair and politely and smoothly (no pushy sales techniques) talked her into a hair trim appt for the following week.

They were fast but it didn't effect the quality. I was concerned about getting out on time on my big day and those worries have been erased. I look and feel gorgeous and look forward to visiting again!

I feel like a model when I walk out. I gave Richard Herrera About Hair a try, as I just moved into the city about a year ago, and didn't have a salon lined up. I saw Nate and basically let him have artistic license with my long hair. He transformed me with beautiful color, weaved highlights and sculpted my one length long hair into a beautiful bouncy long layered "grown up" look. I'm hooked! Nate is my man from now on, and having been back to see him 3 times now, he continues to create a masterpiece each time. For me, it's a little on the spendy side, but that is coming from someone that used to cut and color her own hair. Spending $150+ every 3 months isn't that bad.

What I had hoped for . . .. I choose ABOUT HAIR and Richard very specifically - I wanted a great cut - classic - not cutting edge.

After Richard listened to a diatribe about what I wanted and saw several pictures that I brought, he basically told me to relax and assured me that he knew what to do with my hair.

I didn't get a hair cut - I got a hair sculpt. Richard cut into my waves and curls, taming them with a scissor instead of gels etc. He cut off the extra weight of my very thick hair and framed my face with a great, easy to care for style.

The cost was reasonable, certainly worth every penny to walk out of the salon happy.

Beautiful inpatients. I arrived early. As I was walking in, I noticed some beautiful flowers and a gentleman looking at them. We struck up a conversation. It turns out, he was Richard Herrara. He was absolutely charming.

I was having hair and make-up done for a photo. The best compliment I was paid all day was when my son's 12-year-old friend said "you look different today - in a good way!" Thanks Michele (I'm not sure about the spelling)!

A lovely salon - highly recommended.

Worth the Trip to Downtown. I tried a salon closer to my home for a quick trim and quickly remembered why I love ALL my hair services at RH. Not only would I not trust my color to anyone else, but the staff at RH is so professional...and if you've been disappointed by one of those salons that has chatty, bad-mouthed staff that never improved their social skills past middle school, you'll appreciate the upscale, confident treatment you'll receive at Richard Herrera About Hair.

Worth the try!!!. They are great for a busy schedule. I always get in when I need to. I have gone to a few different girls and they all were friendly and listened to what I was looking for. They all got my hair JUST the right color. That is the reason I left other salons, they just couldn't get it right. From the second you walk in the door they grab your purse and are handed a robe. Makes you feel very pampered, but without the price of a spa!

It is easy to find off the freeway so you don't have to get lost downtown! I have sent a lot of my friends here and will continue to do so!!!

Oh and the best part is when they shampoo you! Talk about heaven. They take their time and even massage your neck!

Best Salon Around.. HANDS DOWN!. AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING!

This is the best salon I have ever been to, everyone was all smiles and very helpful. I was greeted when I walked in by these really ADORABLE girls who had great style and looked totally chic. Their hair was very exceptional and makeup was done so nicely I wanted a replica for my evening out on the town! Well they always offer me a beverage and ask me about my day! My stylist is fantastic, she knows just what I want every time, and I know when she is gone I can see other stylists too, They are all so great and holy holy let me tell you about the shampoos all with a mini massage, ahhhh A nice way to end the week wouldnt you say? AMAZING your hair will feel like silk. I love this place.
