Editorial Review for Artists Repertory Theatre – by Ken DuBois

In Short
A.R.T. does a great job with the extra events that help an audience prepare for--or digest--each production. You can grill the director in the pre-session, or dote on the cast afterwards. Monday Night Readings feature local actors and a variety of scripts, including plays that were turned into motion pictures. Hear how good the writing sounds without the special effects.

I just saw ART's production of Mary Zimmerman's Metamorphosis last night and I'm still a-tingle with mythic inspiration. The show was funny, poignant, haunting, transformative, political, gorgeous and topical all at the same time. I would like to say here that I am a rather picky theater-goer and a mythological studies student to boot. I was concerned that translating an epic as grandiose as Ovid's ancient poem Metamorphosis to the stage would be impossible, but with Zimmerman's intelligently beautiful script, the director's exceptional skill, outstanding performances by multi-talented actors and an otherworldly fusion of brilliant set/costume/lighting/sound design, ART's latest production was truly a triumph of theatrical and artistic prowess.

I've been attending ART for years and have yet to be disenchanted by a performance. They strive for a diverse range of plays and always deliver. Whether you purchase a seasonal subscription, or a single ticket, you wont be disappointed.

Pros: Play Selection, Acting, Parking

Cons: Ticket availability for popular shows

Prize-winning plays, great acting, first-rate sets and not a bad seat in the house.  See the full editorial review.
