As the oldest public library on the West Coast, the Central Library offers both historic charm and modern resources..
In Short
After a three-year, $24-million renovation, this library shines as one of the city's most majestic historic buildings. New additions--improved lighting, earthquake preparedness, wheelchair access and more than 130 computer terminals--have enhanced usability. The library houses a rare-book room, a space for writers and a gallery. Regular activities are offered for children and adults, including workshops on how to use the library's computers. The library's Children's Media Center offers educational resources for families, schools and children.

Why go anywhere else?.
Five stories of books and media, self-checkout, knowledgeable librarians AND you can drink Starbucks from the first floor. Now if only they were open on Mondays, too!
