where to go for leather & tools
by enchantedlm at Citysearch
Oregon Leather is a great place for do-it-yourselfers that know what they want. While the staff is not going to hold your hand and be a personal interpreter/shopper/consultant, if you have questions about what tool is best for your project or what kind of leather is best for a certain application, they are willing, knowledgable, and friendly. I have not bought any of their premade items, but have been very satisfied with the assortment of tools, hardware, leather, and riding equipment(!). I have even had friendly service when I had to return a tool that did not meet my needs - an unusual event in modern society.
- Pros: off street parking, downtown, knowledgable, friendly
- Cons: closed on Sundays
I'm amazed

Great prices and great people. I decided to write a review here after I went in to buy a coat and I couldn't believe that the only review in plain sight, without having to click to see more, was a negative review! The man I dealt with not only had an extremely extensive knowledge about his products, but I was most pleased that he didn't just want to sell me the most expensive item he could show me. I was even more happy with the time he took just to spend with me to make sure I found exactly what I was looking for.
I'm still baffled by the only negative review written for Oregon Leather and even more baffled that it's the only non-hidden review (who keeps track of what reviews show up?) In my experience with customer service, I'm going to guess that whoever that person was was probably really rude, mean, or just acted shady in the store.
Oregon Leather gets an 10 from me.
- Pros: Service was the best when helping me make a selection
Extremely poor customer service

I went to Oregon Leather to purchase a belt and to have a a small rectangle cut from piece of scrap leather. The folks at Oregon Leather told me to buy an exacto knife and cut the scrap leather myself. I asked if an Oregon Leather employee would cut a small rectangle from a piece of Oregon Leather scrap leather, not from the leather I brought in. The man in charge refused. Good customer service includes doing the small things. Good customer service was nowhere to be found during my visit to Oregon Leather.
