Would have gotten better service from a real hobo

This may be a politically incorrect title but entriely true. A group of us went here for Valentine's Day dinner. Needless to say there was very little about the dinner experience that inspired love. Our server was less than attentive in a half full resturaunt and we waited quite some time between drink orders and food ordering and the end of the meal for our bill. When the food finally came half the table was very diappointed. The halibut stank of fish smell, the medium steak was almost rare, and the vegetaables were raw. At least the wine glasses were almost full when brought to the table. By the time dinner was done we were ready to go but had to wait 15 min between having the table cleaned and having to ask our waiter for the check. Then to our surprise, and not a good one, we had been charged for the water. Now, this water was already on the table when we arrived and we were never told that there would be a charge for something none of us ordered and seemed standard, as it was there when we arrived! We had out of town guests with us and by the time we left we were so embarrased by the situation that we swore never to go back again. Slow, bad service and an obviously under experienced kitchen made this place not a fine dining experience but a big rip off of your hard earned money. The money I saved for this night was unwisely spent here. I should have ordered a pizza and rented a movie. We would have had a better time. Blech.
- Pros: ambience

Worst Gay Restaurant In Portland

First they charge 17% gradutity on crapy service on 5 people even when the place is empty. Too many fo the waitstaff standing around the bar just laughting and talking when they should be doing their job. My meal took additional 30 mins after everyone was served. An yea the waiter never came back to the table so we could complain. The food is over priced for the greasy so I guess part of the 17% went to the grease company for getting rid of the fry grease. Needless to say I was embarrsed cause I brought out of town guess and they really were not impressed. Their were from San Francisco, CA. This was such a let down I will not be going back there again! I guess it's back to Starky's where there food is 5 times better. you guys sucked!

good drinks, convivial atmosphere, mediocre food

Ya, it's a civilized place to drink and shmooze in Old Town. Great space and decor. We've eaten there many times though, and it's really not worth it. Dining room is pretentious, so are the wait staff. The bar menu would appear to be decent, but the food quality is sub-par. Go for drinks, piano bar; it's a great place, just don't count on the food.
- Pros: Drinks, crowd, atmosphere
- Cons: food
