Swagat is one of the best Indian food restaurants in Portland and the ambiance is perfect for a nice date night or a family dinner. I love their naan bread made at their restaurant; it is like eating fluffy clouds! If you like Indian food, this is the place to go!
One of the better Indian buffets in town, but Swagat really shines for dinner. Order 'thali'-style for more fun & flavor, but try not to fill up on all the amazing flatbreads!
Its good food.... I enjoyed my experience at Swagat. I wasn't moaning with delight while I ate but I have nothing to complain about either. The service was good and the food was hot and tasty. If you are looking for some casual dining that is tasty and affordable then this is a good place for you.
Disappointing!!!. This was an highly disappointing visit! The hostess didnt even ask if we were helped! She stood in front of us and kept counting her tips and didnt greet us! I think she was a Racist!!! She didnt even apologize properly! India's were not welcome in the Indian restaurant! It was annoying! I will never go to this place and will never recommend this place to anyone ever! I wonder how long they will be able to be in business with this kind of customer service!
Not bad. Keep in mind that Swagat's is not gourmet Indian food. Flavors are not complex. Good food, but not great. Atmosphere is pleasant. For the price, I recommend it.
What's happened to Swagat?.
I have been a big fan of Swagat for several years. I am an avid consumer of the Chicken Mahkni and such. However, it had been a while since my last visit, and today I was sadly disappointed.
The vegatable pakoras have turned into heavily battered fried French fries. The naan bread quickly hardens stiff like it's been microwaved. The cilantro chutney was doused in salt to the point it was almost unedable; the Chicken Mahkni was a spice disappointment. The vegetable curry had good flavor. But boasting a mix of 9 vegetables lead to disapointment when I realized it was the typical frozen mix you can find a local grocery store.
Where have you gone, Swagat? Will I ever get that sweet and flavorful Chicken Mahkni again? I am concerned.
I simply loved the atmosphere!. The family and I went to this place for the first time and it was a pleasant experience! Some of the food was a bit spicy, however the service was excellent and simply loved the atmosphere!
Our favorite Indian Food in Portland.
My guy and I have been eating here regularly--at least 3 times a month for the last 3.5years. We are vegetarians and I am also sugar free. The food is almost always good and sometimes exceptionally good. Not gourmet, but reasonably priced, good tasting food. They serve dhosas which are wheat free huge crepes and they are delicious. We get the spinach palak paneer, and the dhosa regualrly. We can count on them to be good sometimes we'll try other things like their okra curry dish and it's inconsistent. Reasonable
price, good food and decent service
Best Indian Food in Portland.
I am of the opinion that this is the best Indian food that you can get in Portland. I have frequented this establishment for over 7 years and have never been disappointed.
Their food is always good, but occasionally changing. Indian food is very complicated and you can taste the complexity in their dishes. I find this exciting as nearly every time that I visit, it is a little different.
Their prices have gone up over the years, but are not as of yet, unreasonable.
Surprisingly Fantastic!.
Maybe its just Indian food in general that gives people the he-be-je-bees. It certainly did me. Some friends took me when I accidentally mentioned needing to broaden my horizons.
Flavors were Interesting, Intriguing and ...Good! As a new come'r to the Indian world, and not having the taste for the Hot version of Spicy I went with the Chicken Makhani. Flippin Good. The soups and dips ( which I got confused) were... interesting but again...a learning experience.
The server was very lovely and good at his job. All and all a very lovely experience.
