If you want to watch a sports game at a place with plenty of screens or if you're in need of a casual bar with activities to enjoy & amuse you & your friends, this is a great stop. Pool for .75 cents, shuffleboard, darts, ping pong, skeet ball , boxing and plenty of beer. During the weekends this corner bar fills with 20 & 30 something's that are happy the work week is over.
I like this place a lot. It's not exactly classy. The pizza isn't the best. But there are cocktails and beer and shuffle board and pool tables. And best of all, ping-pong. This is an excellent place to test your semi-sport skills against Portland's finest randoms. Low key and comfortable and also within stumbling distance to about, oh, twenty other bars :)
ping-pong. Pizza was doughy, but the beer was cold and they have a ping-pong table.
BETTER NOW.
I AGREE WITH SOME OF THE BAD REVIEWS FROM A COUPLE YEARS BACK. I'D GO FOR LUNCH & THE WAITRESS WOULD BE TALKING & LAUGHING WITH "THE BOYS". IT SHOULD NOT TAKE AN HOUR FOR YOU TO GET AN ORDER.
THEY HAVE UPPED IT SOMEWHAT & SEEM TO BE TRYING. PIZZA IS GOOD.
GIVE THEM A TRY & FORM YOUR OWN OPINION. THINGS HAVE CHANGED!!!
great place to watch Blazer games!.
UPDATE 2/28/2011: My friends and I have been coming to this bar to watch Blazer games for years. The service has gone downhill with the addition of the two new female bartenders, who have been at the bar a year or less. We experienced a poorly-handled, drama-filled Oscars/Blazer game situation last night. On other nights, we get slow (and sometimes rude) service from them. The new female bartenders do not do a fair job representing the family that owns the place, nor the other people that work there.
All we ask is to be treated like they are glad to have us there.

Original review:
This is a fun local sports bar owned by a very nice family. Recently remodeled with hardwoods, and new bathrooms (very nice). I go here to play pool, or to watch Blazer games with friends. It's also a great place to people-watch on 21st. Sometimes it seems like people only leave reviews on this website when they want to complain- so I thought I would let people know that not everyone who comes here has a bad time! This is a great place to have in my 'hood!
Alienating.
I am rating Silver Dollar based on customer service alone --- I never even got to their pizza or drinks. I hope they read this.
I was waiting at the bus stop tonight with a couple heavy Trader Joe's shopping bags, and sat on the edge of one of Silver Dollar's covered outdoor tables, 4 feet from the bus stop sign. There is no room for a bus shelter here due to their benches, and the curb is covered in cigarettes.
I am at their table for 1-2 minutes (the bus is coming in 12 minutes) when a guy opens the bar door and says, "Uh, you gotta move somewhere else ma'am. Come on. Let's go!" And I kind of mumble (surprised and embarrassed in front of drunk Silver Dollar patrons out smoking) that I'm just waiting for the bus, and then get up and stand a few steps forward by the sign.
The only time I've heard anyone talk to another person like this is to a homeless person who may be falling asleep etc. on the table, and I was only sitting there a couple minutes minding my own business. Besides, it is always wrong and cruel to speak to another human being like they are a victim of lobotomy.
Additionally, experiences like this create a terrible public image for Silver Dollar. What if I were waiting for a friend to get pizza or a drink there? What if I was a regular customer? I am in the area a lot. Besides, most places don't care if you sit at their outdoor tables (think any coffee shop) -- especially in winter when they are vacant. And if a place does care, they place a sign on their tables or windows saying "Reserved for customers of this establishment." Silver Dollar did none of this, but they did alienate me, and I will never recommend them to anyone I hang out with at Cinema 21 (across the street!) or go there myself.
Do NOT go here.. This is the worst bar in the neighborhood, probably the city. The pizza is so bad, I live 1/2 block away and wouldn't eat here if they paid me to, espcially since Escape from New York is just up on 23rd. Service is just about the worst in the city, they'll make you wait, and expect you to thank them when the beer finally comes. The place is FILTHY and the owner dumps his trash on the street. The last review was definitely written by someone on the inside (problably the owner's wife.) There are unprincipled people who run this place, and they have crappy food, service, beer and sports watching - all of which we have tried on multiple occasional over the last 5 years, alway hoping that it would be better because it is so close to where we live. With so many other places to go on 21st, don't bother going here.
terrible service.
We were there on a weeknight, and the place was notbusy. They only have one person for the entire floor (about 1000 sq ft.). She was short handed....and she just did not care! So the understaff situation and the only wait staff don't care attitude makes ordering a beer a 20 min. ordeal. We got our pizza, and they left out one of the toppings. We asked them to remake, then she came back with the orignal pizza, and the toppings was "blow torched", and just "sat" on the pizza, not baked in. By this time, we told her to cancel the order. Her reply was " well, I just wanted to fix it, and if you don't want the pizza, just say so." She did not apologize for the wrong order during the entire time, not once.
Save your time and money, please do not go there.
Let Me Tell You.
For a Friday night, it was empty. The lights were way up and clearly displayed the ugly interior. (Think 1970s rec room).
Service is incredibly slow.
On the upside, they have a good variety of pizzas and they taste pretty good, too. Their lunch/happy hour specials are a good deal.
The Best!. Have you HAD this pizza? The traditional styles are available (and delicious), but its their gourmet pizzas that really rock. Best veggie pizza in town.
