What People Are Saying About Matador

In Short – Dark and smoky; grungy, raucous and occasionally gnarly, this red-lit den is decorated with velvet toreador paintings. On busy nights, the long, narrow space becomes a formidable gauntlet of rockers, hipsters, punks and weirdos, stretching along the bar to the pool tables in back. The kids come to party, attracted by a Wild West saloon vibe-meets-backstage pass feeling that anything can happen. Mexican fare is a welcome alternative to typical dive bar fries and nuggets.

Food made us sick

by hollywood38

Watch out for the big rascally "cook". I don't know what he did or what went wrong, but he had a bad attitude from the start, and the sandwiches we had made us all terribly sick that night through the whole next day. It's very dirty in there. Go for the beer and cheap drinks, but leave when it's time to eat something!!!

  • Pros: I like the beer, and the A/C
  • Cons: I don't like spending the night over the toilet

In a city with mostly average mexican food, you

will enjoy this food. ( The chicken tacos are

pretty average though)

:)

Service was Bad, the Food was Worse

by Akiajax

Went there on Sunday with two friends. A waitress walked by use three times adn never once even acknowledged us. Had to go ask for menus. The food is over priced for quality/quantites. I had the burger which was fine, just very bland. My friend had the Pozole, which was the WORST i have ever had. It had A LOT of cabbage in it and tasted like cabbage water. Literally, warm cabbage water. The spinach salad, which cost $7, was overpriced and unremarkable. On the upside the decor is nice, fancy and the salsa was good. In today's economy, i expect restaurant food to be palatable and at the least, good service. I hope that the folks at Matador pick it up a bit in both catagories and drop the attitude.

  • Pros: Upscale decor, open window seating
  • Cons: The Food, the Service
