Not your trendy Casa Del Matador chain!. Whenever we want a good stiff, cheap, drink and some yummy bar food we head down to The(Original)Matador.I get serious cravings for their garden patty melts and their macho nachos could feed a bevy of drunkards!I like to call it a "slice of life" in there cause there are always people from all walks of life so it ads to the entertainment factor, which there is already alot of going on.Pool tables, video poker, photo booth, pinball, basketball, darts, punching game, mega touch, one of the best jukeboxes in Portland,a variety of D.J.s!

Worse bar experience ever!!!. Terrible service!!Food?!We couldn't order food because the bartender(jerk!)said that they were not a restaurant and that our order would take FOREVER ,and also that their kitchen wasn't set up for a order of 4 burgers, that's right, 4 burgers!!

WTF!?

Why do you have menus for food on top of the tables if your kitchen is not set up to prepare food?!And that was at 11:30 pm the kitchen was not even near to be closed!

Shame on you!!!

Portland Icon. The kind of place where you never know what will be waiting for you on the other side of the door. Great bar! Really comfortable with cheap stiff drinks, this bar has been locally owned for forty years. Cheers!

P. S. Don't get it confused with Seattle chain Casa Del Matador. Not the same at all!

trendy trend...ugh. A place where everyone goes because everyone else goes, and all are afraid to say that it sucks ass.

Great DIVE BAR!!!! Cheap food! Cheap Drinks!!. Well, it's a nice "dive bar." They have cheap food, cheap drinks, and the bartenders always serve you, even if you are drunk! I am not gonna lie!! I've heard it's very hard to get "86'ed" from this bar. They havew $6.00 PBR pitchers and 25 cent pool!!! I recommend this bar very highly except for the night that they have the live band becuase those suck!! If they have a live band, chances are, it's going to be bad. If you are a band trying out, might want to contact them! But on a lighter note, it's a great bar!! You can get trashed and they won't kick you out!!

Favorite Neighborhood Bar. I go there after work and get dinner and drinks at a good price.

Food was terrible. A group of my friends and I ate at this place last Saturday night, when we arrived at Screen Door across the street and decided we didn't want to wait the hour plus for a table. I guess the fact that Matador was half empty at 7:00 on a Saturday night should have been our first clue. My house margarita tasted like it was poured right out of a mixer bottle (which was very disappointing at a "Tequila" bar) and my friend's mohito was just plain bad. Our food was even worse. I ordered the baby-back ribs and the spices were so incredibly hot I could barely eat them. One of my friend's enchiladas were so bathed in crap you could barely find or taste the actual enchiladas. Very disappointing! We won’t be back. (But the restaurant itself is very cool!)

Food made us sick. Watch out for the big rascally "cook". I don't know what he did or what went wrong, but he had a bad attitude from the start, and the sandwiches we had made us all terribly sick that night through the whole next day. It's very dirty in there. Go for the beer and cheap drinks, but leave when it's time to eat something!!!

great happy hour, and good food. In a city with mostly average mexican food, you

will enjoy this food. ( The chicken tacos are

pretty average though)

Service was Bad, the Food was Worse. Went there on Sunday with two friends. A waitress walked by use three times adn never once even acknowledged us. Had to go ask for menus. The food is over priced for quality/quantites. I had the burger which was fine, just very bland. My friend had the Pozole, which was the WORST i have ever had. It had A LOT of cabbage in it and tasted like cabbage water. Literally, warm cabbage water. The spinach salad, which cost $7, was overpriced and unremarkable. On the upside the decor is nice, fancy and the salsa was good. In today's economy, i expect restaurant food to be palatable and at the least, good service. I hope that the folks at Matador pick it up a bit in both catagories and drop the attitude.
