Portland >Bars & Clubs > C C Slaughters Restaurant
Tacky dump. What a dump this place is. You'd think in a ciity the size of Portland that they could at least have one decent bar. This reminded me of a gay bar from the 70's, from its tacky decor to the self loathing of its clients.
A$$hole Bartenders. There is a skinny b*tch bartender who is obnoxious and rude. There is always an enormous line, and the guy can't keep up, so he takes out is incompetence on everyone in line. If you're one of his friends, you get to jump the line. The guy at the head of the line complained and the bartender refused to serve him.
horrible!. there is one rude boucer! he is over weight he is the ruudest bouncer I have ever encountered while bar hoping! he never smiles and is always rude and disrespectfule. the should hire someone new to gake his place..
Good quality gay bar w/ decent drinks.
*Clean air. Not stuffy.
*Tranquil side (Rainbow Room) for talking and party side for dancing and getting loud
*Can be crowded after midnight
*Parking is a nightmare after 9pm in that area
This is a place where when I go out, I know I will see most of my friends at Slaughters. The drinks can be normal to strong, but never weak. Overall good vibes. If you come late, be sure to save 30 min to find street parking.
I Love this bar.... I love this bar. I always have a great time and the staff from the door, coat check, bartenders and bar helpers all have wonderful attitudes and are fun to be around. I read some of these reviews below and have to wonder what is wrong with these people. I think they are probably loosers in the community and it shows. CC's has some of the best priced drinks in town. They have a drink special it seems like every night I've ever been there. I know that they haven't charged a cover in 08. Not once have I ever looked up to see dirty movies (I've only been going for the last 2 years). The DJ's have always played good music and take my requests when I have one (can't say that for the other bars). Last but not least I love going to a bar that has the age group young pretty boys to old men and everything in between to me that gives me every option you fool...
GO SOME PLACE ELSE.... YOU WOULD DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT GOING THERE. STARTING WITH THE DOOR MAN TO THE BARTENDERS. VERY VERY DUDE. IF THEY DONT LIKE YOU, YOU WILL RECEIVE SHI_TY DRINKS OVER PRICE DRINKS TO NOT BEING WAITED ON.. EVERYTHING THAT THE OTHERS HAVE WROTE ABOUT CC'S IS VERY TRUE.. THERE ARE MANY MORE OTHER CLUBS TO GO TO TO HAVE FUNN.
Listen To Your Customers And You Will Always Be A Success Story..
I have been a valued patron at CC Slaughters since it's days on Stark Street when it had a pink door with a round hole for a window. It had an upstairs, wonderful crowd, dance floor and areas to sit, dine and chat. In the mid-90's, Slaughter's featured an all you can eat breakfast buffet for $2.99. It was amazing and so filling. Gay guys and the girls who love them would pile into the bar, eat until you pop and meet new people who sat at your table. People left other bars early to get to CC's for seating. It was the most popular single item that drew crowds Friday and Saturday and now...it's gone. So is the fun, the crowds, the money they made and left behind is bitter-sweet memories. John Jr. and John Senior (founders) knew how to add flare while helping customers feel welcome.
Then, CC's moved to a new home. For nearly 10 years, I visited every Saturday only missing a few. I danced with friends, met new people and had too much fun. Once the new owners began making changes, it changed the friendliness we had all known, cover prices at the door made us feel unwelcome, not cared about. Suddenly we paid for enjoyments we'd received FREE prior. It snubbed us regulars. A bad business choice. The music of DJ Frankie J no longer played, several DJ's came and went. All that remained is long, boring dance tracks and tired Madonna songs. The dining area was remodeled several times and removed was it's dimly lighted charms. In the end the place simply needs to return to a relaxed, non-noisy, brightly lighted dance area. Turn the music down a bit to talk. Your drink prices need to be lowered a dollar or so and how about a special or two Friday and Saturdays? Show us we mean something to you. Be thankful we're at CC's we can go anywhere. Money and decorations are wonderful but treat ME (your customer) right by listening to what we have to say. There are no long lines to enter the club today but there always were from 1999 and beyond. Lose the rated X vids too. It's cheap
An ideal example of how a bar/club should not operate.
I have been to Slaughters about 5 times over the last 4 months on thursdays and some fridays. I tried my best to give the bar/club the benefit of the doubt but after a few trips over time - gotta say the bar/club was a waste of money and time. It reminds me of a prime example of how a bar that could have been is not and an ideal example of how a bar should not operate.
Pros - Some really attentive bartenders, Good design, Good Dance floor and inside Lounge area, Clean restroom.
Cons - Some bartenders seem to be in their own world and seemd to be very busy talking with the other employees and gossiping rather than taking care of the customers. I noticed some peple at the bar getting a bit irritated. A really terrible DJ which I believe must be the reason for a poor showing on week/weekend nights there. I hope they get rid of the adult videos - no one cares except really drunk bored people - kinda perpetuates the boredom. How about some cool videos/shows instead.
I do not like giving bad reviews at all, but there will be more cons than pros if you read on. My bottom line is that CC's was a lot better before they remodelled. They expanded the bar and rearranged the dining area in the back. Therefore, they thought that was a good reason to BUMP UP THE COVER CHARGE and ELIMINATE THE SEATING AREA AND MUCH OF THE FOOD MENU. During the remodel, the back exit was also eliminated maybe for safety reasons but still is inconvenient to go all the way to the front to leave. I got to keep going with the cons. Slaughters has rarely had a decent crowd. Way too many pretty boys and old men. I feel like I am in high school every time I am in there. It is also just too far away from other bars if you want to barhop. I hear about Latino Night and their big Thursday nights, but their cover is not worth spending when the crowds are not there. I was there for CC's 25th anniversary party, and there was hardly anyone there except for cigarette smoke. I could barely eat their birthday cake. The staff is not too customer-oriented. They seem distant and distracted or maybe just not happy in general. Will CC's be slaughtered?
OK, time to mention the good things. The dance floor is the biggest than any of the bars on Stark. Their music is actually pleasant and not overplayed. The bathrooms are tidy and organized too thanks to the remodel. Sadly, I would stick to the bars on Stark. See my reviews on Silver and Eagle (where is Scandals on Citysearch?)!
Editorial Review by Ivy Manning. This gay-friendly nightclub draws party types with its large dance floor, nightly DJs and a swanky red martini lounge.
