Darcelle is an icon in the Portland gay community. The show at Darcelle's is a must-do-at-least-once. The Queens are mature and marvelous. They aim to entertain, mostly themselves, but if you get a kick out of them - well then that makes them ever happier.
tired, tired, tired. I recently went to Darcelle's for the first time with some girlfriends (ages ranging 34-57) and I'm sad to say that we all think the show needs a major overhaul. The jokes are old, the costumes are old, the songs are old. There's nothing new and fresh about this place. I didn't even know most of the songs they were lip syncing to. And Darcelle himself?? I hate to say it, but there comes a time when it's time to retire (or at least take a step back) and let fresh blood take over. Not that he wasn't entertaining at times. He definitely was....BUT....he is 82 years old, so what can you expect? He had a hard time walking around the stage, his feet were swollen and stuffed into his shoes and he seemed drunk and was slurring his words. It was hard to even follow what he was saying sometimes. In my opinion, he should make an appearance, tell a few jokes and then let some younger, hipper drag queens run the show. Oh, and the part where he turned around and people were stuffing dollar bills in his bare ---........we all could have done without that. All in all, it was mildly entertaining, but disappointing. I wouldn't go back.
Great for Bachelorette Parties!. I made reservations for Darcelle's for my sister's bachelorette party and I am sure glad I did! Such a fun show and so entertaining. Very much worth the money and a fantastic place to go to for parties and a girls night out. The servers were excellent, very attentive to our drink orders. I will definitely come here again!
Funnest time in a long time.
My neices and I spent the weekend of the 7th of Feb. right downtown in the pretty city of Portland. One neice lives there and one flew in from Virginia. Having heard about Darcelle's for several years I have always wanted to see the show. What a great time we had!!!! After walking most of the day, my back was killing me. When Darcelle came out to take pictures with everybody, I was sitting on a windowledge to ease the pain. When she found out about this, she took me inside and put me and my group right in the front row at the end of the runway!! What a lovely thing for her to do. Thank you so much Darcelle. The girls were just amazing. Extremely beautiful and classy and funny too. They really made everybody feel right at home and made sure everybody had fun.The strippers weren't bad either. At one point, I looked at my neices and they fighting over the last dollar bill!!One thing I learned was not to touch the girls! I simply lost my head and smacked Darcelle on his bare butt (we were that close!) and immediately got told that was not acceptable. Sorry Darcelle. Please forgive me.
I highly recommend this experience and when I get enough ones saved up, I will get my girls together and we will be back!!
Thank you Darcelle & Co.!
Bigger Lashes Mean Bigger Laughter.
Quite simply said, Darcelle's is a Portland landmark. Without a doubt Darcelle XV and Roxie and the talents of their staff, it couldn't be done. I have seen Broadway shows, Las Vegas impersonator shows and hung out with drag queens, impersonators and so on and no where else will you find such wonderful dresses, makeup, hair and music.
I took my family there (who are straight) several times and they did not feel comfortable at first because they did not know what to expect. After the show starts, they relaxed, enjoyed the fun and have been twice a year since 1996. The jokes are campy, naughty and filled with a bit of crude humor and wording. I like that. Dinner is good before the show, seating can be tight if you get there late and when you let your hair down, they let theirs down too. Darcelle seemed like a nice person on stage and off and get the keepsake photo, you start to collect them year after year. The only thing I have to say is they need a better Web site.
Great overall customer srevice. We have been to Darcele's many times and I think it is a good place for laughes. We have gone there for alot of our Birthday party and for our girls getting married. I have told all my friends that is a great place to spend your evenings as the price is right. Also, we go to the late show and watch the Men Of Pardise as they are great. So, if you ladies need a night out along go there it is worth it and it is great. We have even taken our husbands
Funny and Fabulous. I love it. The staff and performers are friendly and the food is good. Darcelle is soooo funny, and you might be pulled into the show, either being teased by Darcelle or pulled from the crowd. Bring your camera, because no one at work will believe you. You can bring nearly everyone you know. Everyone will have a good time, and you'll want to go back again and again.
Don't waste your money.
The show was overpriced, the seating cramped (I was forced to sit in an aisle with people bumping me every few minutes), the drinks were watered down, my friend said the food was awful, and the jokes weren't even funny.
Want to waste your evening and money...go visit here!
Female-impersonation club serves up a good time with cabaret-style drag revues at this Old Town spot..
In Short
Wearing big jewelry, fake hair and falsies, "girls" at this Portland favorite entertain families, friends and large groups Las Vegas-style. Strategically placed tables in front of the large stage give all patrons a front-row view of the hour-and-a-half-long show. The club's namesake, Darcelle--dolled up in false eyelashes, blond wig and rhinestones--leads a dozen different musical and comedy performances complete with lip synching and corny jokes. On weekends, a male dance revue is the big finale.
Very entertaining!.
Both the "ladies" and the drinks are very strong and very good!
We made reservations a few days in advance and still got great seats right up front. Darcelle does some great stand-up between numbers, but will give up if the crowd is being too loud. Bring lots of one dollar bills - the performers will wander among the crowd throughout the show and appreciate a little paper love. Watch out - they may single you out and try to embarrass you. The atmosphere is fun and funny - nobody takes themselves too seriously at Darcelle's. Beware of the smoke, though, it can be heavy. Bring your camera, you can take all the flash pictures you want.
A great place to spend an evening! Ten bucks well spent. I will definitely be returning.
So funny!!!. We went for my birthday and it was hillarious! The show was great!!! Drinks were great and you got to keep the glasses. WE loved it!
