In Short – This large vault-like space lurks beneath the Burnside Bridge in Old Town. Brick archways give the room a a riverfront warehouse feeling. These days, live music and DJs get the place pulsing. It's a regular downtown stop for rockers, scenesters and ravers alike. The space boasts two bars, lounge-style conversation areas and a narrow courtyard out back with a meditation pool--a little pond with a Buddha statue.

Harlem Nights Thursdays

by thirddonjuan at Citysearch

I highly suggest you check out Harlem Nights on Thursdays, It is unlike any experience I have had as far as cultural, performing artists in Portland. There is a variety unlike any I have seen. The bar makes stiff drinks I can say that!! The performers are 10++++++ The cover is only 3$ and its worth more in my opinion! You should seriously check out a new experience and go to the Ohm on Thursdays!!

  • Pros: Incredible performers, stiff drinks, cheap cover, polite staff, friendly atmosphere
  • Cons: dirty bathrooms

the place for spoken word!!!

by deepinksynergy at Citysearch

great atmosphere. there is usually a live painter painting during the performance and she is AMAZING! The poetry is also exceptional. they've changed the time. the doors now open at 8pm and they are hosting an open mic from 830 - 930 until the featured show starts at 930. the cover is $3. the bartender makes great drinks. overall it was a wonderful experience. and it's probably the most culture you will find in portland in one place too. of the performers there was native americans, hawaiins, african americans, chinese, young, old, basically people from all walks of life brought together by art. pretty sweet. a must see.

  • Pros: spoken word, cost, atmosphere, drinks, live art
  • Cons: none

Brilliant Spoken word on Thursday nights. Diverse scene of inellectuals and performers!

by 30g at Citysearch

If you write poetry, rap or sing this is the scene for you. The one place in Portland where it feels like D.C. OR N.Y.

Come listen or share! The poetry usually starts around 10 and goes till 1am.

And the cover charge is 5.00 or free if you are performing a piece.

  • Pros: Spoken word and a jive band called The Black Notes
  • Cons: Sometimes a small crowd as if Portland doesnt have poets?
