Never been happier with a cut....
If you're reading this, that may indicate that you're looking for a good cut. Keep reading, and try this place.
First, the parking--no mean feat in the Pearl. There's dedicated parking for their customers so you don't have to choose between getting a ticket, running out with a wet head to feed a meter or circling the block(s) while finding a spot closer than Lake O. I showed up early, found the parking (easy), so walked over to City Market as I had some time on my hands. Upon arriving at Blades, I was greeted with warmth. The place just feels good.
I had a ton of hair, far too much for my scrawny frame, but wasn't quite sure how to part with it (or part it, for that matter). Thick, curly, and down to the middle of my back. Gaylynn asked me a good number of questions to get to know more about the person underneath all that hair, and looked at my features to find out what would be the best way to make the most of the good ones while minimizing the rest. She was reluctant to cut it off on the first visit as that could be a shock, but I'm very happy she did. I've never had a better cut.
This was her last appointment of the day, but she wasn't tired or worn out. Instead, she was having a blast, and it showed in the cut she gave me. Now I'm looking forward to going back sooner rather than later.
There's no tipping--this is a good practice that encourages professionalism, and it makes sense. When your friends wonder who you are and where you got that cut, just tell them...and keep going back.

Good for many hair types, but not curly, long hair. Let me start of by saying that Gaylynn is an amazing colorist. My new stylist totally went with Gaylynn's color. Cutting curly hair is a very specialized field within the hair styling field. Unfortunately, nobody at the salon specialized in cutting curly, long hair. Most of their clientele seemed to have straight, short hair. After a lot of frustration at my frizz (even the anti-frizz from there wasn't helping), I finally had to switch salons and see someone who specializes in long, curly hair. I learned that my hair was being cut in a classic way, instead of in a way that most flattered my curls. The frizz was because of my curls not falling right. I also learned that I needed to be using a shaping gel, in addition to an anti-frizz gel. That being said, Gaylnn is a master colorist and all of their stylists do great work on most hair types. I would just suggest more training in curly hair, bringing on a stylist who specializes in curly hair, or maybe politely referring curly haired clients to stylists elsewhere. View Less … View More
go there. yikes! my haircut is cuter than i am!! got a great cut from andrea :) seriously, several people have already commented on what a cute cut for my face shape. i was really nervous going to a new place, and finally springing for a professional cut (i got a long bob). glad i found blades. it was warm and cozy in there on a rainy cold day; good energy. andrea patiently answered my many questions and really put me at ease. i like it that there is no tipping; seems psychologically cleaner that way, if that makes sense. and i like it that they only do hair. and that they make parking easy (they give you a pass for a closeby parking lot). and i got in quickly. thanks andrea! Gina Saves the Day!. I called Blades after a completely nightmare color experience from another salon that shall remain nameless. I had never been there before. Not only were they able to get me in right away for a correction, but they didn't ask for my first born in order to fix my bright red hair! Gina was my colorist and she did an absolutely fantastic job. I have received nothing but compliments from my friends and co-workers! She was honest about what could be done to fix the mess and the result is beautiful. She was also extremely personable, so was everyone else come to think of it and they even have a shop dog! It seems like the salon staff has built friendships with their clients. It feels like you are walking into a friends house or something, everyone is chatting and laughing. Anyway, I am kind of glad my hair needed a color correction now because I may never have found Blades or Gina! Thanks nameless salon for ruining my hair so I could have Gina fix it! Love Love Love Blades. When I moved from Boston I was desperate need of a place to get my hair cut. I searched all over and based on reviews Blades seemed like the place to go for what I wanted. From my first haircut ever to now, I've never had a better haircut in my life. I tend to change my hair a lot...sometimes short, sometimes long, sometimes keep my bangs long sometime chop them short...no matter how I decide what to do, my hair always looks amazing. Even when I was growing my hair from short to long, the growout process was incredibly painless, something I've never experienced. Over the fall I couldn't make it to Blades and thought Dosha would do in a pinch. I was sooo soooo wrong. Dosha butchered my hair. I went to David (my stylist at Blades) and he not only fixed my hair but once again made it incredible. I love Blades and will never leave them. View Less … View More
