Tips for Urbaca Salon

Things I value in a hair stylist/salon:

- consistency

- attention to detail

- industry experience

I started going to Laci at Urbaca 4 months ago and have been pleasantly surprised by the salon experience as well as her skill level regarding color and cut. I almost didnt write this review because I don't want Laci to book up so quickly that I can't get an appointment with her. I am on a performance team in the Portland area, it's important that I feel comfortable and confident with my hair and stylist. Laci took me from dark brown to beautiful blonde almost immediately, she listened to me and delivered the EXACT color that I wanted. My hair is still healthy which is amazing considering the huge color change I requested; Laci did the job the right way! She is honest and will explain the pros and cons if you ask her opinion on a style. When I asked her for a "trim" she delivered just that, she did not cut the extra half inch off that most stylist will cut off whether you ask them to or not. Urbaca has been around for so long now and has very little turnover in staff so I can be sure that they will hold themselves accountable for any and every cut, color, highlight, etc. Oh and last but not least, they have their own free parking building right across the street. Wrap your mind around that, no searching for parking pre-appointment or walking alone in downtown Portland after an appointment.

Love my new 'do!. I bought a Sharing Spree for a cut and highlight with Laci that I used last week. I had a great experience! Laci was knowledgeable and friendly and my hair looked great when I walked out- with new bangs that I love! A complementary glass of wine and a great scalp massage made my day and took my salon experience to the next level! I definitely recommend Urbaca if you're looking for a relaxed, upscale salon in a great location downtown- with free parking to boot!

I can't look in the mirror. I don't know what to do. I now have hideously short choppy hair and look HORRIBLE. I cry every time I look in the mirror. John, who is a nice enough guy, for some reason decided to just chop and chop and chop away at my hair, even though I said I really need to still be able to get it into a ponytail after the cut. The cut accentuates my most unattractive feature, which is a sharp jawline. I honestly do not know what I'm going to do; it's not like it can be fixed. I just have to wait for it to grow (which will likely be about a year)! Oh my gosh, I cannot get my head around the idea that I have to wait a year before I can look in the mirror and not cry.

Caroline is AMAZING!. I have never been to someone that I trust so much with my hair, I am very particular about every detail about my hair color, cut and style and Caroline exceeds my expectations every single time. I have been seeing her for over a year and have referred many friends to her that are now her clients.

Overall, Urbaca and is a wonderful salon and I highly recommend it!

Great hair style and cut by John-VERY happy!. I just had my hair cut and styled by John Lee. He is GREAT!! This was my 1st visit to Urbaca and I have to say that my experience from setting up my appointment with Joe over the phone, my reminder phone call for my appointment, my incredible hair style to the 2 girls at the counter on my way out has been the best I have ever had at any salon I have been to. This is the 1st time I can say that I actually have a "hair style" and not just a "hair cut". I LOVE IT!!! I don't think that I have ever really liked my hair cuts until now.

John-you are awesome! You took your time, talked to me about the 3 different pictures of styles that I had brought in and went with the best one to fit my face.

The salon is in a cool building close to places to eat, shop etc. I would most definately recommend John as a stylist!

What Urbaca Does When Things Aren't Right. Hi, I work for Urbaca! I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with your haircut, dubhemerak3000.

Despite our best efforts, miscommunications, mis-matched stylist-guest personalities, and plain old mistakes DO happen, which is why if you are not completely happy with any service or product you receive from Urbaca, please let us know ASAP! We do our very best to make things right, with another stylist, if necessary. Thank you for giving your honest opinion and feedback, we monitor all of our comments to make sure we are doing the best services we can!

dubhemerak3000, if you are comfortable doing so, PLEASE call the salon 503.241.5030 and ask for me (Sherry) and we will do what we can to help you find they style you're looking for.

Not worth fifty bucks. I suppose this place isn't so bad, but if you know what you want in a haircut, I really don't recommend it. I told the hairstylist exactly what I wanted, and she did nothing I asked her to do because she wanted to do what she was "into." I think it's great that there's so much passion, but if I'm going to pay fifty dollars I expect--well, first of all, to actually get my hair *cut*, which didn't really happen, and I expect for the haircut to be nice. Coming out of the salon I was angry at how little of a difference there was from when I stepped in; and just two weeks afterward, I look like a misshaven dog. So, if you already know what you're looking for and if you like *short* hair, I don't recommend this place. I will definitely not be going back. I wish I could get a refund.

Locks of Love. I, along with two co-workers hunted high and low to find a good salon in town that participates in the "Locks of Love" program. Which collects hair donations, and creates wigs for children with hair loss.

Urbaca was not only willing to do the cuts, & ship the hair, and get my co-workers and I in all at the same time, but it was FREE OF CHARGE. Many other salons offered the service, but charged for the styling cut afterwards. To me, it seems a bit selfish to charge when it's for charity. I think it is great that Urbaca, and it's employees are selfless enough to do such a good deed, free of charge!!

I will definitely go back to this salon specifically for that reason. I had a "junior stylist" Melissa, I believe. She did a great job on my hair after the inital cut, I will go to her in the future to maintain my new short style!

The friendliest high end salon!. I love this place because it looks like a high end salon, provides high end services, has high end employees, but isn't the slightest bit snobby and the prices are not what you'd think they would be.

I have received the greatest hair cut I've ever had from Caroline twice now. She's great at recommending ideas, but isn't pushy about it either. I love this girl! I will never let anyone else touch my hair again.
