Editorial Review for The New Old Lompoc – by Nancy Levenson
The Scene
The low-key atmosphere at this neighborhood brewpub is a refreshing change from the bevy of trendy shops and restaurants that line the rest of 23rd Avenue. Named after a bar in an old Mae West movie, the Lompoc has been crafting its own brews since the mid-nineties, and features a variety of ales and lagers with memorable names. The John Outhouse Special Bitter, for example, is an English-style beer, and tastes much better than it sounds.
The Draw
The beautiful, vine-covered patio out back is reason enough to visit. When the weather cooperates, everyone heads outside to eat and drink alfresco style. Complement your libations with a full menu of pub snacks, burgers, sandwiches and salads. Don't miss happy hour on weekdays from 4pm to 7pm, and all day Saturday and Sunday, with $3 pints, $2 off appetizers and $3 well drinks. And stop by for a $2 bloody mary every Sunday Bloody Sunday.

Insider Tips
Where to SitWhen it's sunny out, grab a seat on the patio. A covered shed provides shelter from sun or rain.
The ExtrasWell-behaved dogs are welcome on the patio, so you don't have to feel guilty about leaving the pooch at home.

We wanted to meet some out of town friends someplace in the NW area of Portland. As regulars at Oaks Bottom Public House, we thought New Old Lompoc might be a good bet. Boy were we wrong! While the food was good and the beer was fine, the atmosphere was lacking. It was so dark we had a hard time reading the menus, and the 4 of us had a hard time breathing while we were there. I was embarassed to have invited my friends to meet me there, and felt badly that we chose a place so completely smoke filled. As the sister pub of Oaks Bottom, a non smoking establishment, I figured we'd be looking at the same environment. I couldn't have been more wrong. If you can handle the smoke it's a decent place to eat, but it's not so good that I can look past the smoke. We will not be returning.
Pros: Good food, good beer, nice location
Cons: parking, smoking is allowed

These guys are great!! I've been to there pub a few times and had a great time with friends and just myself. I usually never just travel to a resturant/Pub without expecting good food and Beer, but New Old Lompoc is the rare exception that Food comes secondary to the Beer! Also, the actual bar is so tiny and faces you in such a way that they have to greet you when you walk in!! Nice and Dark on a Saturday night for times you wish not really see that blind date sitting across from you. Toilets are classical pull chain (or used to be) and lend to old dirty, great pubs. If you like Horse Brass with the lights turned way down, this is your joint!!
