Pizza by the slice. No delivery, credit cards, or ranch dressing! Noted on their menu. The sauce, the crust and the spunk just like NY! Yum!

I love this place. It is nestled right on 23rd (cash only) and they normally have about 3-4 pizza choices. The pizza is perfect.

Bunch of conceded pricks that know how to make pizza . . .. Well,

This is the MOST delicious pizza in Portland, hands down. The service however is seriously lacking.

I have had SEVERAL negative experiences with the owner. One where I went inside to pick up my pizza after ordering it and sitting outside, when the pizza was 15 minutes late I went inside to check on the status he repeatedly called me fitzF*#KER, volume increasing with each utterance of the offense. "Yeah, I called you for your pizza Fitzpatrick. But I didn't say Fitzpatrick, I said fitzf*#ker. . . FitzF*#ker I said. I called your name out FitzF*#KER, but since you were outside nobody responded. You want it now FITZF*#KER?"

The other time he was so offensive, he called me a fa@@ot when I commented that I liked the art in his pizzaria. "What're you, some kinda FA@@OT that you like art so much you gotta talk about it?" Many of my friends told me that if they were me they would stop giving patronage to the shop, and several have stopped eating there after witnessing these events. Despite the HORRIBLE attitude/service/interaction/vibe that the owner gives out. Despite the filthy condition of the shop (I wouldn't be surprised to see rats or roaches scurrying about) I still continue to return.

No pie shop in Portland comes close. The pizza is beyond good. If I was only reviewing the food it would get five stars, but the customer service the owner gives is just SO terrible. If you ever have to deal with him, it might ruin your day - and NO slice of pizza is worth that.

NOT NY PIZZA. I wouldn't vote for Escape from NY if they were the last option! Their pizza sucks! Not only is it bad but it is NOT from NY and I know because I lived there for years. When I moved back to Portland I was excited to go here and remember how great NY pizza is but I was SO disappointed. I almost asked for my money back it was so bad. I don't remember the pizza being so bad before I moved to NY but hey, maybe I never knew what good was???? ;)

Abusive behavior from employees is not okay.. After having been a loyal customer for years, I decided to take my boyfriend in for a slice. It was hot, we were hungry, and I was stoked to see that the lighting inside was gorgeous through the windows (I'm an amateur photographer).

He ordered a slice from a really fat guy with a bald head behind the counter and paid for our food and drinks with minimal hassle. The guy wasn't friendly or helpful and had a general rude demeanor, but we just ignored it because we like the pizza.

I snapped off a few shots with my old point and shoot film camera of my boyfriend eating a slice and made sure no one else was in the pic. No biggie.

In the middle of helping a family of five, (three little kids present at the counter) the fat guy behind the counter starts yelling at me to stop taking pictures. I was really confused because I wasn't including him in the shots.

I smiled and said "But I'm not taking pictures of you," and he threw a handful of ice at my body, hitting me with it, and yelled (pointing at the door) for me and my camera to get lost.

I was shocked, my boyfriend put down his pizza, and we both looked at him and said "Really? We're just eating the slice we bought. We're not causing any harm" and in front of the family he screams for us to get lost and never come back.

My boyfriend said "Hey, calm down, don't yell at my girlfriend" and I was like, "let's get out of here, screw this." So we left.

I've been a super loyal customer for YEARS to this place and I've never been treated with such disrespect. I don't care how good the pizza is, it's not okay to physically threaten your customers. Especially in front of kids. Or anyone for that matter, we paid, we were being peaceful and respectful and minding our own business, that guy was crazy and abusive and should be fired.

I won't ever go back and I will definitely tell everyone to avoid this place.

Truely Authentic NY Pizza with no BS.. I grew up in NY and know pizza. NY pizza is meant to be pretty simple. Which too many West Coasters complain about. They think its about the toppings that make a pizza which is the exact opposite. Without a great crust your just not going to have a great pizza.

These guys honestly make a pizza that rivals the best pizzas in NY. I promise.

The service and decor is what you'll get back east too. Very basic cafeteria looking decor and service with little or no smile or convo. I don't care how much someone smiles to me when they give me food, it doesn't make the food better.

Parking in NW 23rd is really difficult so bring some extra cash for paid parking. You might need it.

ignorant people don't like this pizza. People that complain about this place should be ostracized, and publicly humiliated. It's great.

service is what it should be, pithy. pizza is not some gourmet greek bull s!@t. They even take local check.

My fiance is on her way to pick it up now. I can't wait for it to get here.

Superior In Every Way. How can you describe the perfect slice of Pizza? Is there anything better? Escape From New York is the only place I've visited in Portland that offers an authentic NY Slice. Perfect crust, perfect sauce, plenty of cheese. Even a little spicy NY attitude with your order. It's a glorious thing.
