Traditional meets modern at this handsome property in one of Portland's trendy neighborhoods..
This not-so-secret hideaway sits just a few blocks above 23rd Avenue's stylish boutiques and bars. The 10,000-square-foot, ivy-covered mansion was built in 1904 and retains its Victorian charm, although with some contemporary updates. The grounds offer a swimming pool and hidden orchard, and on clear days, views of Mts. Hood and St. Helens.
Oak floors and contemporary furnishings offer casual elegance. All six bedrooms have private baths, fireplaces and data ports. One even has a spa and sleeping porch. The doting staff serves freshly baked breakfast goodies in the dining room, and this grand old home has plenty of nooks and crannies for taking a nap or reading a good book. Those with an urge to roam can take a stroll through the pleasant neighborhood, trot down the hill to where the action is or catch the streetcar downtown.
A perfect 10..
I can't say enough what a fabulous experience Heron Haus was. The enormous bathroom (complete with spa, fireplace and cozy bath robes) and super-comfortable bed almost kept us in our room the entire weekend! Wireless internet access and a basket of goodies were also included.
When we did venture out, we discovered Heron Haus' lovely gardens and hilltop views. This house is obviously well-loved by the Innkeeper, who was friendly and personable without being pushy or demanding too much of our attention. The common areas were warm and comfortable, without being overdone or pretentious. Breakfast was also excellent, complete with sticky buns and fresh fruit.
Just down the street, we were spoiled for choice with so many restaurants and shops. There's even a trolly that runs right to the city center.
A very good choice!!!.
This was our first time in a Bed & Breakfast and I'm glad we chose the Heron Haus!
The innkeeper, Julie, was so nice and gracious.
We stayed in the Kulia suite for a week and never wanted to get out of the hot tub.
When we did fenture out, 23rd Ave., where all the shops and restaurants are was only 3 blocks away!
We even took Juno, the innkeepers son's Great Pyrenees out for several walks! We LOVE this place and will definitely be back! Thanks Julie!!!
A Honeymoon to Remember.
My wife and I chose Heron Haus for our Honeymoon because of its location and the pictures on the Internet.
We wanted a romantic, secluded spot, close to downtown and were very pleased with our choice!
Our room, Mahina, on the third floor had a fire place, a huge kind bed and great views of Mt. Hood and some of the other mountains here.
But what made our stay memorable was the hospitality and kindness of the Inn Keeper - Thanks!
We'll be back Julie!!!.
My husband and I stayed with Julie for a week while looking to relocate to the Northwest, and I have to say she helped our transition immensely.
Her hospitality and knowledge of the Northwest made our stay worth while.
The Heron Haus was the perfect "home-base" for us while we explored the City, wine country, and the Coast. It's a grand old house with big beds, a spa tub, and fireplaces in every room! And I wish my sheets smelled so good! Thank you Julie!!!
A warm and friendly getway..
Julie's warmth and hositality made our stay in Portland the best in years.
We travel extensively and throughout our travels haven't felt more at home than at the Heron Haus!
After taking trips to the wine country, the Gorge, Mt Hood, and shopping downtown, it was great to come back and soak in our spa tub. The firepalce, candles, bubble bath, and the view from the tub made it difficult to get out.
Hurray for Julie!!! We'll see you again! T&J
Bad service. If you missed the complementary breakfast hours, the hostess will not serve them to you. She will tell you everything has been dumped away when realistically, the breakfast items only includes tea, coffee, and fruits.
