For several years now I have been recommending Trilogy, even when I did not live in town. I would rave about their selection of obscure movies and their knowledgeable staff. I also recommended going there as they are a small fish in an ocean of mean and nasty big fish (the chains). As a small business owner I felt compelled to support them. Ever had late fees? Most people I have talked to regretfully admit they have and usually when they go in to rent again they pay up... isn't that normal? Not necesarily something I advocate but it is within the somewhat flawed but not evil human realm. Recently I had three traumatic things happen in my life (my Father's passing included) and I was flaky in that I did not pay my late fee of $14.00. I knew I needed to but it was something I put off as at the time it seemed there were more pressing issues to deal with. I was wrong but was planning on paying it. Next scene, my daughter came into rent movies and signed up. The staff was friendly and helpful, as usual. She left practically whistling as she was so excited to watch the staff's favs. Next: Moments later my daughter received a call at her house asking if she knew me (the evil one). My daughter admitted I was her Mother. The owner proceeded to yell at my daughter, threatening to charge her for my movies as she had her card... and asked her in not the most congenial manner to never rent there again, "Promise you will never rent here again!" What should have happened?: The owner should have asked my daughter to have her Mother call them. That is all. A done deal. I would have called and paid over the phone (I did after). I am remorseful. I have sinned but isn't this over the top? Onto Movie Madness even though we have to juant over the bridge vs. walk down the street. I think we will be better served and not asked for repentance and treated with distain if we owe 14.00 in late fees. Knowledgeable staff. Spiteful and reactive owner. Good selection of movies.
Pros: Helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable staff. Good selection of classics & obscure cult films.
Cons: Over the top, over reactive and mean spirited owner. Not professional.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, FOR YEARS I RENTED MY VIDEOS AND DVD'S FROM TRILOGY UNTIL RECENTLY. I AM A MAJOR FILM MAKER FROM LOS ANGELES AND HAD MOVED TO THE PEARL AREA SEVERAL YEARS AGO. THAT'S WHEN I FIRST DISCOVERED TRILOGY AT A DIFFERENT LOCATION. AT ANY RATE....SEVERAL MONTHS AGO ONE OF YOUR STAFF MEMBERS HIGHLY RECOMMENED ANOTHER VIDEO STORE FOR ME TO CHECK OUT. AND, I'LL TELL YOU THIS....AM I GLAD I DID. THE NAME OF THE STORE IS MOVIE MADNESS VIDEO & MORE LOCATED IN SOUTHEAST PORTLAND. IT'S NOT ONLY THE BEST VIDEO STORE I'VE EVER SEEN, BUT IT'S ALSO ONE OF THE MOST UNIQUE VIDEO STORE'S IN THE COUNTRY. AND, I'VE SEEN MANY...BUT NONE CAN COMPARE TO THIS WONDERFUL STORE. THE OWNER (WHO I HAVEN'T MET YET) MUST HAVE A GREAT APPRECIATION AND RESPECT FOR FILM AND FOR THE ARTS AS WELL. HE HAS A MUSEUM OF RARE COSTUMES AND PROPS THAT WERE USED IN MANY FILMS AND HE HAS THE LARGEST SELECTION OF DVD AND VIDEO TITLES I HAVE EVER SEEN. ANYWHERE!!!! SO....HOW CAN TRILOGY SAY THAT THEY HAVE THE LARGEST AND BEST SELECTION IN PORTLAND AND IN OREGON FOR THAT MATTER. YOU WANT TO KNOW SOMETHING....AFTER SEEING AND BECOMING A CUSTOMER TO MOVIE MADNESS.....TRILOGY, THEIR STAFF MEMBERS AND CUSTOMERS SHOULD CHECK OUT MOVIE MADNESS. IT'S A VERY UNIQUE AND WONDERFUL VIDEO STORE. AND YOU KNOW SOMETHING ELSE... I PROMISE YOU....THAT ANYONE WHO GOES THERE WILL NOT WANT TO GO ANYWHERE ELSE. THANKYOU....
Pros: SEVEN BLOCKS FROM WHERE I LIVE, BUT I DON'T RENT HERE ANYMORE.....
Cons: NOT AS GOOD OF SELECTION OF TITLES AS MOVIE MADNESS VIDEO.....
