Good Q. Very Good BBQ, for this area, hard to find a decent BBQ establishment here in Portland.
Third review is a charm, this is bad BBQ!. HORRIBLE BBQ! Overpriced to begin with, and that doesn't even cover it. The side items are the worst! They're extremely dry and taste like they've been sitting under a heat lamp all day long, oh wait, they have! The BBQ itself is fatty, and tasteless. If you want truly good BBQ with great sides, I suggest Clays on Division, or Outlaw BBQ in Clackamas off of 224. I laugh at the people who claim this is good BBQ, you must like McDonald's quality BBQ, cause that's what this is. Also they're scamming people with the restaurant coupons since they don't take them.
I know bad bbq. Cannons is really, really bad.. 'Worst ever' doesn't begin to cover it. Inedible from the first bite. Literally 'spit it out' bad. The 'rib tips' we ordered were obviously microwaved repeatedly to the point they were like BBQ'ed wood splinters. The mac and cheese was hard and cold. I agree with the previous reviewer. I wouldn't feed it to a stray dog.
Worst BBQ Ever, Wouldn't Feed It To My Dog!!! -2 Stars. I wish I could give them negative stars!! Went to Cannon's Rib Express, it was the worst BBQ ever, I don't know who thinks they taste good on here, obviously you folks have not tasted good ol' fashioned "Q", the sides look like they were meant for a baby food jar size for $2 you got to be out your mind they should be ashamed of themselves for serving this garbage; and the sides they look like they were microwaved that day and taste like it too, bland, no flavor having sides, the desserts are not authentic at all, the banana bread pudding was boxed garbage with valillla wafers in it. The pork sandwich was very dry, like biting into a cardboard box with bbq sauce on it. Izzy's bbq tastes better than this, and Kfc too. The meat tastes like it was all just thrown in a processor and have bbq sauce just thrown over it. I wouldn't feed a dog with this JUNK, STAY AWAY!!! Try Po'Shynes in Kenton, they are legit and fresh bbq!!! If thats what you are looking for!!
Great Place to Hang Out. Been here twice with my family and nothing to complain about. I recommend Cannon's rib
By Default, The Best Around.. I'm a big BBQ fan, and I really like Cannon's. The best bet is the bucket of rib tips, when it's available. The ribs are always smoky and spicy. I'm never disappointed. It's not the best BBQ I've ever had, but it's probably the best around here.
Fraud Alert: won't honor restaurant dot com certificates.
Cannon's Rib Express refused to honor the restaurant dot com certificate which I paid good money for, saying they are no longer accepting them.
Not only was that embarrassing and messed up our evening, but smacks of fraud.
I've eaten there before, it's not bad but not great, and gimme a break, $13 is pretty high for only 1/3 rack and two sides? Certainly not worth their high prices without a coupon.
Mediocre expensive food, rude service.
$13 for a microwaved brisket dinner with white air-bread instead of the advertised corn bread. 9oz. of brisket included 3.5 oz of fat (yes, I weighed it). Sauce tasted bottled.
Slow, grumpy service. Only reason it attracts business is its location near New Seasons.
There are better BBQ in the neighborhood. Check them out instead.
Mediocre at best.
I am a North Carolinian and I DO KNOW "Q" ! There is NO shortcut to getting awesome BBQ ribs. It takes roughly four to five hours of slow smoking at no more than 275-300 degrees and you must add seasoned hickory to the coals to get good smoke flavor ( or fruit woods work as well like apple wood or peach or cherry wood chips and chunks ). PERFECT ribs should NOT fall off the bone !!!!!! Thats the first sign of pre boiled ribs. If the meat fall off the bone, they've been boiled to begin with and more than likely also overcooked as well.. Otherwise, the ribs were "ok" but NOT GREAT . Period ! The kiss of death for Cannons was the last thing they did to my rack of ribs just before serving them to me and that was the put the whole rack in the microwave for five minutes to "re-heat" them. YUK. WRONG, WRONG, WRONG ! Great Ribs and microwaves DO NOT MIX. PERIOD. The problem is that in NC, BBQ is a way of life. In Portland, its foreign. Sure, people have been throwing a rack of ribs on grilles here for years but then what you get is "grilled ribs". YUK. GREAT ribs have to be S L O W smoked for hours and served right off the grille. No two ways about it. Not going to find GREAT ribs anywheres in Portland unfortunately. By far, the closest I have found to good ol' southern Q'd ribs is the Dixon Family BBQ place which is on Alberta Street, not far from Cannons. Go give them a try and you'll immediately see the difference. NO shortcuts taken there, I guarantee it. Other than Dixon's, finding GREAT ribs in Portland is like trying to find fresh salmon in Kansas.
Bon Apetite !!!!
almost the best. frequent this place reg .and always comes through for me and family, friendly service ,and the ribs r2die 4! thumbs up for cannons try for yourself.....
