The Scene
Don't let the plastic mermaids and bare-bones interior fool you--this place is authentic through and through. Vegetarians beware: This is a meat-lover's den and the menu of carne asada, marinated pork, tongue and chorizo sausage reflects it.
The Food
This family-run establishment brings its recipes to life with spice and flavor, making return customers out of just about everyone. Tacos served on warm corn tortillas and topped with cilantro and minced onions, cost less than $2, and hefty burritos ring in around $3. There is always a bowl of fresh limes for garnish, along with hot red and green salsas. For a more exotic treat, try the shrimp cocktail, served in a tall glass with spicy tomato salsa, or the Seven Seas soup, bursting with fresh shellfish of the day. To cool off your mouth, try the horchata, a sweet concoction made with milk, rice, brown sugar and cinnamon.

My husband and I, on our quest for delicious tacos in our neighborhood, went into La Sirenita to check it out. We both got a carne asada and a carnitas taco. Both tacos had a lot of meat and was tasty and cooked well. They are only $1.35 each so our whole order was really cheap. We also got some rice and beans, which were pretty much standard, and an order of chips which were crisp and tasty. They also offer a nice little condiment bar, where we got some smokin hot roasted jalapenos. The food was really good, the atmosphere is casual, so don't expect a superior dining experience, and I even sneaked a peek into the kitchen, which was clean and tidy. My husband and I give it the big thumbs up for yumminess!

I used to go here more often than La Bonita but found the quality to be inconsistent. I really love carnitas and several times they have been too fatty and greasy. Ii prefer to go to Bonita for that. But if you're looking for something veggie it's most often a hit.

The soft tostada/veggie burrito is only $3, and is easily the best burrito I've ever had. This place is as authentic as it gets. Ive been a solid customer there for three years now, go there about once a week, and have never had a bad experience. La Bonita, its closest competitor and neighbor, is less authentic, more expensive, and bland in comparison.
