Don't be fooled by the exterior, on a street flooded with trendy vibes, this classic pub has an atmosphere like nothing else in the 'hood.
In response to the colorfully named,.
Couldn't help myself, just had to jump in here. Listen, folks, I'm not looking for an ass-kissing, nor table service (though, let's face it: as a server, when it's slow, you can jack up your sales, and consequently your tips, by jumping out from behind the bar and offering some table service. That's standard); my vehement griping is a result of the surly disdain I've experienced on my 3 visits, whilst ordering from the bar (I've never received, nor asked for, table service). Perhaps the owner is a jolly Irishman with a delightful brogue and a gift for conversation, but as I've never seen the guy, I'll base my judgment solely on his employees, and they are uniformly unimpressive. I don't like to be treated like an a sshole for choosing to give you my money... that just doesn't make sense.
You know who's nice? The people in that Alley Way bar down the street- they're actually trying, and I like that. Check them out.
Worst Service Ever - Can I Have My Money Back - Avoid at all costs!!!!. Unfortunately I have had to frequent Alberta St. Public House numerous times to support one of my favorite local jazz acts. The sound is good and the atmosphere comfortable, but the wait staff is horrific. Rude, unacomodating, threatening, fat, ugly....i could go on all day. They sure go out of their way to let you know how much cooler they are than you. I overheard the bartender talking trash about the very talented band that was performing in the next room.I felt threatened by the really HARD looks I got from the neo-corporate-wannabe punk rocker cook and also bartender. Can you say ultimate meathead? Check out the tag in the men's restroom, obviously his. I don't know why people hire narcissists. Keep a close eye on your tab. I've been overcharged and double charged on my debit card. I'm sure they were all there gentrifying Alberta first, evicting african americans from their neighborhood, right after they moved here from Indiana 3 years ago. Go somewhere else, Alberta St. Public House is a JOKE!!!!
Nice Location, Poor Service. I like the dark and woody atmosphere but the bartendar wasn't the friendliest by any stretch of the imagination. I went to this bar to see a friend play music and will not go back. I was also overcharged and then double charged. I'll stick to my tried and true.
Worst Service in Portland. I have grown up in Portland and have always found the people to be friendly and the service to be great. Not so here. I came with a group of about 12 of us, all spending our hard earned cash and hanging out calmly in the back (our friends play music here). However, I will never go back due to the rude girls who work in the bar. They talked down to us and made rude comments that were unwarranted. Worst bar experience I've had in a city of generally wonderful people. I'll never waste my money or time there again.
I like this Pub....
I like the Alberta Street Pub. Yes, there was a problem with the service and the attitudes of the staff. But I did notice many folks 'hanging out' without actually buying food or drink, making it almost impossible for the staff to get over to the actual paying customers. I had one hell of a time getting my drink, not to mention my food. I heard some fantastic music (accordian and guitar set)
The solution? go early.
Great Service/No Beefs. Despite the reviews listing poor service, a few friends and I decided to give this Pub a try. We had great service, the bartender was friendly and attentive. They have the best Guinness on tap that I have ever had. The mix was just right. I was not only surprised by how good the service was, I would willing go back!
Irish pub offers spaces for both conversation and live music..
In Short
A darkened Irish pub invites patrons to the left, while a pastel-colored music room lures fans to the right. The pub side lends more to conversation, with a mostly older crowd, but it's not uncommon for patrons to burst into spontaneous song. Irish stalwarts like beer and single malts are offered, as well as specialty drinks like Beglan's Big Engine, made with 151 rum and amaretto. The menu lists fresh salads and Irish entrees like shepherd's pie.
I'm sorry- I just wanted a beer!. Every few months I go to the Alberta Street Public House thinking, "This time will be different." I am always wrong. Every time I drop in for a beer and a sandwich, I feel as though I am inconveniencing the bartender. Attitude, snide looks and sulking are what to expect when trying this bar. The worst was on my last trip there. My diabetic friend ordered a rum and diet soda. The bartender sneered and proceeded to make a comment to her friend at the end of the bar saying, "If you are drinking alcohol, why bother with diet? Liquor isn't gonna help you." That was the last straw. Sorry lady, all I wanted was a beer ans a burger! Nasty employees aside, the decore, music and feel of the place are great!
It's probably not the staff's fault. Every time we go to this pub we hope for some good Irish food and service but we are consistently disappointed. We went for some St. Pat's cheer and found the place crowded with only 2 bar staff. No table service was provided and the food was average at best. Small portions so if you have a hearty appetite go elsewhere. We really want to love this place because it's close to home but just can't. Poor management leaves the place understaffed and the music was horrific. We ate while listening to some guy sing about his ingrown toenail. NO LIE!
This is our favorite bar!. You can't beat the happy hour deals and the fabulous drinks. I highly recommend the whisky ginger ale here-they use Thomas Kemper ginger ale. Top Notch. I enjoy the little quirks of the bar. I disagree with the previous posting in regard to the lack of service. There are two nice ladies that work behind the bar who also bring you your grub and pick up the tables, with that in mind, I think they are doing the best they can (above average at that)! Come on a slower night and they'll treat you like royalty! No other bar in the area has this kind of atmosphere! I don't want to tell you how great this bar really is because I want it all to myself!
