In Short – Reminiscent of the Rat Pack era, the retro-flavored decor adds a touch of style to this Northeast neighborhood joint. Sharks and wannabes circle the dozen pool tables while the jukebox blasts tunes from Ella Fitzgerald, Van Morrison, Marilyn Manson and They Might Be Giants. Not typical pool hall chow, the menu ranges from stroganoff and alfredo pastas to salads, juicy burgers, steak or chicken dishes--all made with local ingredients.
A local bar I feel comfortable in

I've gone to Sam's pretty regularly over the past year when I'm in the mood for a burger and beer. The food is diner-quality - not the healthiest, but tasty and just what I'm looking for sometimes. The beers on tap are good, including Rogue's Dead Guy and Bridgeport's IPA. Their free wifi consistently works - something I can't say about too many other places.
Some people have talked about the music being played too loud - I agree there have been a few times I've gone in there and found it to be pretty loud. But the vast majority of the time they keep it down. I usually avoid the place when it's especially busy for that reason.
- Pros: Good burgers and casual atmosphere
- Cons: Can by noisy during busiest times
I AGREE - NOT A POOL HALL

I had the exact same experience at Sams. The music is ridiculously loud the staff is rude and the management definately does not care if you ever come back. I complained to management and was basically told if I didnt like it don't come back. And in this economy consumers are a commodity. I have steadily seen the place become more empty every time I go. Now I know why. I will not spend my money here when there are plenty of other places to play pool, eat and drink.
NOT A POOL HALL, staff will not reduce the music volume.

Sams is more akin to a night club than a pool hall. The music is usually so loud that you cannot have a reasonable coversation with your friends that you are there with. The table rates are expensive and the staff don't give a damn if you ever come back. I desperately tried to give Sams chance as it is very close to my house. I started going several times a week, but in the end, I decided not to ever go back. If you like to play pool your better off going to Classic, or any other place in town for that matter. If you like to play carom (3-cushion billiards) check out hot shots in Beaverton. I will never patronize Sams again. It could be a nice place if they toned it down just a little bit.
- Pros: The food is tolerable
- Cons: loud music and crappy service
