I can't get a written quote? I can't deal with just a (trust me) on a complete engine rebuild. He exclaimed that all of Portland comes to his shop to get this type of service. The service shop is in need of some professionalism in sales an customer service. Rob seemed to act like I was putting him out asking for a written quote. I've seen enough and will shop else where.

Halsey is GREAT for aircooled VW's!. The guys at Halsey are honest and good at what they do. They will present the fixes that are necessarily and not force the ones that are not. (On a 40+ year old car there is a difference) Prices are reasonable and the workmanship is top notch and completed in a reasonable time frame.

I think the older negative reviews are either by unhappy people in general or experienced by the old owner. Tom (the current owner) and his Wife are VERY nice and very helpful people.

Also, having the parts on hand, priced well, and in stock beats mail order any day!

Poor Customer Service. After shortly moving to the area, I was referred to Halsey Automotive Svc. by a friend for VW parts and maintenance. The guys at the parts counter were pleasant enough, but didn't seem excited to help me. The guys in the service department on the other hand were very rude, and told me that I didn't know what I was talking about when I tried to tell them what I thought was wrong with my car. I've been driving the same VW for nearly 10 years, and feel that I have a deep understanding of how my car works. None the less, the lead mechanic was rude enough that I will not be returning to Halsey Automotive for any parts or service in the future.

Friendly, personable service. Always friendly and never snooty. They charge a fair price. I was told by another shop that I needed a new transmission, but when I took it to Halsey they fixed it for about $200. They never talk down to me when explaining what's going on with my VW bay window.

I am now filling legal action against Halsey. I Paid $1400 for tranmission work that never worked right, I took the car back 3 -4 times while still under warranty and they did not coorect it - then suddenly when the warranty was expired - I was told I would have to pay more for them to work on it again.

For some reason they could not work on it and fix it correctly while it was under warranty.

The transmission completly stopped working and they refuse to fix it.

After taking the car to A&P service center - with out me mentioning who had worked on it - I was told the transmission needed a complete rebuild and would not cost near $1400

And he also mentioned whom ever worked on it did not know what they were doing.

I am now filling legal action against Halsey
