view & uploadOur Favorite Cafe!. My friends and I have been frequenting this small cafe for many years. In fact, when we started going there they did not offer breakfast. Now you can go there for any desired meal and experience a tasty and pleasant experience at any given time.We love their generous portion of fish and chips for lunch, eggs benedict for breakfast, and if we are not in the mood for one of their amazing entrees we order their delicious burgers with perfect fries for dinner. With pleasant service in a charming atmosphere you can't go wrong at this place!
Average food and average service. This place costs too much money and doesn't deliver enough food for your buck. If you want them to bring you no food for lots of money and ugly waitresses then go there. My food was good, but where is the rest of it.
BEST FOOD NE PORTLAND!. My family and I relocated to Portland a few months ago and while traveling back from PDX I stopped by this charming cafe with them. I could not believe the lunch we were served, it was incredible! Flavors intermingled with textures, presentations were top notch and prices were fair. I was informed by our server this was a new menu and the cafe recently hired a new chef from Martha's Vineyard. Naturally we had to go back for dinner. Before ordering our entrees we were presented with complimenty focaccia bread that was amazing. When my Miso halibut arrived, on a bed of pureed carrots, It was a feast for the eyes and was honestly the best I have ever tasted. We will be returning for more!
Finally, Good Service and Good Food!. My wife and I haden't visited our little neighbor hood Alameda Cafe in over a year. The service had just gotten too bad for us to tolerate. We decided to try it again 3 weeks ago. I am so glad that we did! The menu has changed and is great! I had one of the best Eggs Benedicts that I have ever tasted. The new menu has great variety. We were especially glad to see the Santa Fe Railroad French Toast was still a specialty. The service was so pleasant. My coffee cup was never empty and our waitress was one of the best I have ever had. We have been back the past two Saturdays for breakfast. It is so nice to have our spot back!
Cozy, Local comfort food with a slight gourmet approach....
Alameda Cafe has comfort food at its finest--A tad gourmet but comfortable, ya know? It's not a pretentious place, but the prices are decent, not cheap. The coffee is good, the menu is somewhat creative, and there are definitely a few stand outs--Where else can you go and get such sinful food, deep fried french toast? C'mon. They've got a very good basic grilled cheese sandwich sans the gooey-ness. The cheese is actually grilled--halloumi cheese, sheeps milk. Very good! I've never had anything like that before. So A for uniqueness, same with the french toast.
The thing is, you gotta keep going back to restaurants. Things change. Management changes, Chefs change. Just because you had one bad experience 5 yrs ago, or even 5 months ago, don't write the place off completely. I know it's hard, because you want to spend your money on decent food. Personally, the first time I ate here, I wasn't impressed with the food. The wait staff can be somewhat ditzy. But since going back, not only has the wait staff changed, the chef, menu, and prices have also been altered.
That pretty much sums up my opinion thus far. I like the place, the people are nice, and I can easily be induced with food coma ... : )
Ok restaurant but not great. I've been here on several occasions and the best I can describe it is "ok". It's not bad, but it's not good. The location is great, but with so many other nice breakfast/lunch spots in Portland this is low on my list. If you want ok food without much hassle, then go here. If you want great food, look elsewhere.
great beer, great service. Just found this place the other day. The beer was great. The cocktails pack quite a kick! Our family split several appetizers. The SMALL onion ring plate was HUGE. They were good, except no salt whatsoever, and a few of the rings were very soggy. We also had smoked chicken quesadillas. They were excellent. We got a hummus plate as well, and it was good, but there was no feta. Service was good, the waitress very accommodating. We will go again.
Great little find!!. First of all, this place has great atmosphere! Wonderfully warm and inviting, without feeling too fancy for a great breakfast. When we walked in the service was really friendly, which for me makes all the difference. I had a great omelet and the coffee was great. I think they use Stumptown. We will definitely be back!
Kudos to the neighborhood cafe. What a great find! Breakfast at this cafe is always tasty. We especially enjoy having the option to create our own omelettes. Their servers know us by our names and they even bring water for our dog whenever we sit outside. Can't go wrong with this great restaurant!
Probably not again. I live down the street from this place, so it is important to support local businesses; however the low level of service I've recieved on my past two visits has made me think twice about supporting this resturant. The breakfast menu is simple with some great variation but the headache brought on by the wait-staff makes eating here a dreadful. I asked about a specific substitution (over medium eggs instead of scrambled) and was told that it was no problem. When the meal arrived, the order was wrong and I was told I should have let the waiter know what I wanted. On top of that, I was told I would have to "wait a very long time" if I really wanted to have my order fixed. All I wanted was a couple of over medium eggs, and it took 20 minutes for those two eggs. We were told our coffee and tea would be taken off the tab, and weren't. Just plain awful service.
