Editorial Review for Rheinlander – by Bonnie Martin Fazio
In Short
Authentic German food in an equally authentic setting, singing servers and strolling musicians add to the festive atmosphere that draws families, couples and groups of friends. Menu offerings range from fondue to sauerbraten, from hasenpfeffer to schnitzel. Diners a budget get there early for early-bird specials. The adjacent Gustav's has a cheaper menu, sans the singing. Lots of beers, a decent wine list and a full bar round out the beverage choices.

Insider Tips
What to DrinkNo dining experience here would be complete without a giant stein of German beer.
Know Before You GoOn weekends, especially, make reservations in advance. If you have a larger group, request a private room.

I have eaten here twice, once for lunch and dinner. Each time everything was very well prepared. The sampler plate gives you a good idea about German food. The cheese fondue was great. The selection of beer and wine is quite good. This a fun place to take serveral friends a have a real nice time.
Pros: Just really good food
Cons: Sometimes noisy

I keep reading all these reviews about how noisy the atmosphere is with a lot of singing... I've never experienced this! I like Rheinlander quite a lot, my boyfriend gets off work quite late on weekends and they're open til 12 so we come in for the happy hour fondue (with sausage, yes!) and drinks. Very good beer, and for some reason I can't get enough of their sandwiches. All the food is top notch. The service has always been friendly and attentive, with the exception of one waiter who when I came in with a 4 of my (albeit younger, but well over 21) looking friends, studied each of our IDs for at LEAST a minute each. Kind of made me feel like some sort of criminal, and its awkward sitting there waiting for your ID back that long. Anyway... other than that, if you don't like the daytime/evening noise, come after 9! Great food and ambiance!
Pros: Happy hour, good service, good food/beer
Cons: Creepy waiters sometimes...
