A bevy of TVs, tall taps and short bills keep sports fans coming back, even if it's not Monday night.

Excellent TVs, Service & Food. Ok, I read some of the other reviews and I have to believe these folks were at a different bar. Or maybe it is because Steeler fans who are not part of the regular group thought they could fit in on SuperBowl day when it is totally swamped.

A & L feels like Cheers to me. I travel regularly for business and go to bars and restaurants across the U.S., and I always come back to A & L because of the service, the food and the cheap beer. The burger and fries here are some of the best I've ever had.

Last time I went in, the bartender actually remembered me and I only come in frequently...and honestly, there is something nice about being remembered when you are a salesman trying to make a living for your family while traveling all over the place.

It seems that a lot of folks love the PBR at the bar, but my taste is for micro brews and they seem to have a million on tap. Ok, maybe I am exagerating, but there really are a ton of beers on tap.

I am a hockey fan since I am from the Midwest and the guys at the bar are always willing to help me find a channel showing a game. Most everyone else around me was watching something else, but I didn't care.

So maybe Superbowl was too busy, and I wasn't there, but on a regular day for a regular guy this bar is hands down better than any other one I've been to in Portland.

Serious Disappointment!. I traveled to Portland to visit family during the week of the Super Bowl. I looked on line for Steelers' bars in the area, and discovered A&L. My son, daughter and I drove across town to watch the game only to discover this hole in the wall establishment. We were excited upon entering the bar, but that didn't last long. Sadly, there were no tables to be found, so we were directed to a smoke filled garage out back. Yes, it was a garage complete with roll up door. The "tailgating section" as they called it was a large area where a few picnic tables were set up with the garage door open and several grills smoking up the place. Funny to me that smoking is prohibited inside bars and restaurants in Portland, Oregon, but you can have charcoal BBQ grills smoking it up. Once we were ushered to the area we were quickly forgotten.

After waiting for 45 minutes for a waitress to come by and take our order, we discovered we were on our own. So after begging a waitress to take our order, we sat in a dingy, smoke filled freezer watching two overhead projectors that were hard to watch because the bulbs were nearly burned out. By the end of the first half, we left because there was no lighting in the garage to see anything, the TV sucked, and we were cold. We didn't anticipate needing heavy coats to sit in a sports bar to watch the game, but we did have a roof over our head to hold in the smoke from the grills.

At half time, we walked across the street to a very nice little Irish pub to watch the rest of the game, and we received excellent food and service lacking at A&L. There were many Steelers fans funneling in from A&L during half time to the pub across the street to watch the game. I guess they had a similar experience.

From my families experience, if you are looking for a good Steelers' bar for great atmosphere and experience of watching the Steelers with fellow black and gold fans, my advice to you is GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! Then again, maybe I have high standards for Steelers bars after frequenting several different ones in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area, and having excellent luck there.

If this is the best Steelers bar in town, I feel sorry for Portland. On the bright side, if you are looking to open a Steelers bar in area, you won't have much competition.

Pros: Steelers

Cons: Street Parking, Bad Lighting, Limited Seating, Terrible Food, Poor Service, Rude Staff, Nasty Bathrooms, Lack of Watchable TVs, BBQ Smoke Filled Rooms, Cold, Dirty

HORRIBLE experience. My boyfriend is a huge Steelers fan, so this seemed a no brainer. I got there an hour early last weekend to get a seat for the game. First off, I found an empty table and started to sit down, some guys came over and took the whole table away!! Rude! So I had to sit in the annex area. waited a full 40 minutes before being acknowledged by the waitress, she brought a menu and then disappeared for an hour!! (ended up going out to the car and getting bottles of water just to have something to drink!) My friend finally had to go hunt her down to put in our order, which we did not get until half time!! When you are a place that advertises a team YOU NEED TO STAFF IT ACCORDINGLY!!!!! Also, bring cash as they only have ONE credit card machine for the 150 or so people that all cash out at once.

The worst place to go..... My guy and I wanted to enjoy a special outing with Steelers peeps on Sunday. My guy caught wind of a bar that was all Steelers fans, little did we know that the establishment was short staffed. After an hr of waiting for a waitress she finally came to our table after walking by several times, low and behold (with the excitement) we thought our order was going to be taken, needless to say, she decided to laugh at us for mentioning that we had been waiting there for an hr and left us high and dry. I talked with my guy and agreed to go wait in the long line to order and waited another 30 min, finally I thought it was a sure thing we could put the bad service behind us and get our food no longer than, realistically 30 min considering the short staff. we waited 2 hrs and we were starving. Since the waitress was again walking by and ignoring us, my guy decided to que her and inform her that we had been waiting for our food for hrs and was polite about it. The waitress was very defensive and qued a lead bar tender over to assist. She came over with such an attitued and verbaly attacked us as my guy was letting her know that it was unexceptable to have to wait for 3 hrs total for food and to be treated like we were not there at all. She was vulgar and tacky with her chosen words yelling at us that we have no right to behave in her establishment. At this point she made a judgment decision and warned us to leave. She didn't want to listen to our expirience we were interupted every word that was being said by us and not once an empathy or a nice gesture to a solution. Her name is Shiloh I don't know who she is, however I do know I will spread the word as I did at work today and this establishment will be labeled as thumbs down... :(

NO GOOD BARS TO WATCH THE NFL ON SUNDAYS IN PORTLAND?. Not enough servers on Sunday's. Hardly saw our server once the games started. If you want to have 2 beers and watch, perfect place! If you want to wait in line after the game for a half hour to cash out, ( NO exaggeration) perfect place. If you like all you can eat sweaty potatoes and rubbery bacon, perfect place. Our server did as good as she could and was very nice but too much for her, and I think, just one other server.. I can't seem to find a good place to watch football on Sundays.. GO VIKES!!!!!!!

F'n F word from Green bay.
